It's an anniversary of sorts -- and should be something of a national holiday.
Twenty years ago, Jim Robinson became FReeper #1 on this website, and we all are much the better for it.
I found FreeRepublic.com via my news aggregator at the time, The Drudge Report. Quickly I lost interest in that site in favor of this my new home page.
I found that Freerepublic is just not a news aggregator, but an intelligence aggregator. Thanks to the overwhelming diversity of interests amongst the FReeper community, we can go from the smallest subatomic particles to the vastness of inter-gallactic space in only a few posts. And from pottery shards from the earliest human civilizations to the flying car concepts from the day after tomorrow.
Thought provoking discussions about history, religion and even cold fusion and train travel has intrigued us over the past twenty years.
And those are just some side benefits to one of the best sites anywhere for the sharing of conservative and patriotic ideas.
Thanks, Jim, for following through on the glimmer of your idea for this site. Happy Anniversary memories and hopes and prayers for many more anniversaries to come!
And lately, I don't actually get much.
But your post I get. It made me laugh.
"Holy cow
Its you"
I just need to ask. You're not the guy in the elevator from this morning are you? I'm really sorry if you are, there was no cold water....
No
I use the stairs. ;)
I think I have been here at least 20 years. It was listening to Rush which led me to FR. I attended a few of the DC events in those early days... The March for Justice, the Thank You Dinner to the House of Rep. Mgrs.... the good ole days. I rode up the elevator with Drudge and Lucianne when we (my husband and then 3 young sons) were there for the March for Justice. Lol.
Awww...you’re so sweet and it’s such a pleasure being your FRiend! I HAVE met Windflier and his sweet wife, and they are precious souls! And lots of fun, too! Wish I could meet you, too, some day!
Thanks for the kind mention, Nan. You’re a dear soul to me, even though we’ve never met in person. I’m sure if we lived closer we’d be like family by now.
I’ve been blessed to make the acquaintance of so many fine, upstanding patriots, since becoming a Freeper ten years ago. I treasure the memories of meeting many of my FRiends in person at our annual Texas Cowboy Memorial Shoot gatherings.
Due to the steady growth of my family business, I can’t post as much as I used to, but like you keep up with the forum daily.
Thank you, JimRob, for keeping the doors open all these years. Long live Free Republic!
I love so many of the Freepers who have been here for along time. So many memories of those early crazy days. Our imaginations ran rampant and our inner child came out. Such fun we had. I think LadyX was responsible for dreaming up most of that foolishment. When there was fewer of us,it was easier to get to know more folks. Also the political actions that took place was fun because there were pictures and reports. I so enjoyed seeing the Freeper Friday nights at Walter Reed. And the reports on the Correspondent’s big gathering where the D.C. chapter did their comedy routine making fun of them. Why don’t we do more things like that any more?
Thanks to Jim. Thanks to all. We made our mark.
I remember reading in those days about how Clintons goons were literally after FReepers
Glad you survived
At the time, I chose "Bushbacker1" as my stage name, as W was in the fight against John sKerry. I thought by choosing that name, it would cement my support of W! But, in recent years, and the behavior of the Bush family, I could no longer keep, or want, that name. Changed to Road Warrior '04 and been moving on since!
We live for The One...
She was always adept at honoring Armistice Day and always had moving, patriotic posts on that day.
Congrats, Jim. You have a great place here.
November 2000, WPB and Broward counties. Saved an election we did.
I be FReeper number 13500.

And we FReepers #Large are alive and well, thanks in no small part to your patriotic deeds!
I know this thread was started 7 months ago but I just found it. Wanted to throw in my part.
I have been an activist at heart before finding FR so when living in Austin and heard Bill Clinton was coming to town, I made up lots of signs a couple of people went with me to the airport exit he would have to head to town from and set up my position.
The radio station came by and with a live interview told people where I was and a freeper showed up. That freeper ??? put up a thread about it and sent me the link. I went day after day but it had about 12 replies and I thought what is the big deal about this site? Nothing new every day. LOL
It took me a while to find the main pages. And then I was hooked. Was the secretary of the Heart of Texas chapter of FR for some years. We had Basil, TheSarce, DrewsDad, austingirl, gracie, and other names faded off. Great people!
We held the line around the Texas Governor’s mansion 36 days after the 2000 election until Algore finally conceded.
And I had a great time when I went to D.C. joining the DC freepers at Hillary’s house fundraiser for anita Loe?
Hillary was late to her own function and didn’t even let the people into her house. The check-in table was in the driveway and they had to go around the house to the back yard. What a low class family!
Hear hear!
