Last week, the Washington Post profiled second lady Karen Pence, a devout Christian and devoted wife who is, as the story put it, her husbands prayer warrior, gut check and shield.
Ashley Parker, the reporter, noted that Vice President Mike Pence once had told The Hill, a political newspaper and website, that he never dines with women alone, nor does he attend functions without his wife if alcohol is being served.
This tidbit popped off the page like a spark from a burning log. Twitter, which is always highly combustible, exploded.
Was this a sign of marital devotion and respect? Or a signal that the Pences dont trust Mike Pence to be alone with a woman? Or perhaps dont trust a woman to be alone with Mike Pence?

But remember how widely Pence was attacked for this when he made these statements?
SMART DUDE.
Mike Pence is a wise man. Better to be certain no accusations can ever credibly be made.
When I was at The Basic School learning how to be an Officer of Marines, we all were advised that during counseling sessions with female Marines, never be alone with them.
Wisdom, not sexism.
Certainly far above the radical leftist media on this one. Choke on it MSM.
But now we know.
Common sense.
And if he did? Couldn’t win either way.
I believe I read that the Reverend Billy Graham exercised this same kind of restraint.
I think it’s just wise for any man in public life. If I recall, Billy Graham had the same rule.
That is something the Billy Graham Crusade did early on.
None of their people could be alone with a woman, not their wife in a situation which could be seen as improper.
Just goes to show, they make an argument no matter what you do. Dine alone, you are a pervert, refuse to dine alone, you are a sexist.
The Torah Moses gave us is filled with useful advice like that.
Pence is smarter and more prudent than a batch of DC swamp dwellers.
I thought I was the only one who remembered that.
If not dining alone with a woman is sexist, we’ve got a damned if you do and damned if you don’t situation. Everyone’s guilty of something!!
We always knew. I remember hearing Billy Graham say that when he first became a Pastor he adapted two rules which he's always followed: 1) Never touch the money yourself and 2)Never be alone with a woman other than your wife. Wise rules.
Since people are so lawsuit thirsty, I would say it’s smart.
I had a female “problem child” that worked for me many years ago. She managed to get her previous two supervisors fired by alleging that they came on to her. We had a policy that no men would be allowed to go into a room alone with her. Whenever she got reprimanded we made sure we had plenty of witnesses.
I remember when that story came out as the left attempted to paint Pence as some kind of neanderthal woman hater.
As a Christian, Pence is rigid about self-accountability. Who’s laughing now?
