Today in my mailbox I received notification of a new service. Informed Delivery see the link will send me text pictures of my mail as it travels to my delivery site.
I had thought for quite a while that the USPS tracked every piece of mail, with those little stick on bar codes. Now it confirm that they take pictures of each piece of mail. I repeat: They take pictures of our mail. There is no privacy. Ever.
Everything is documented.
Everything.
We continue the march to becoming the least free country in the history of man
> And yet they couldn’t track Ted Kazinsky’s packages.
They did track them. And they got shots of him putting them in the mailbox. He was just smart enough to disguise himself.
Is this somehow related to Facebook wanting users to send in nude pictures of themselves?
/tinfoil
I am actually excited about this service. We have a second home that we don’t visit much in the shoulder seasons (like now) so knowing what is in the mailbox is very helpful to me. It’s largely advertising pieces but for the occasional important mail, it’s nice to know.
And I thought it was just me. I normally receive packages that the tracking lists as "delivered" the next day.
then i am skrewed
Happens to me all the time when I order from Amazon....
**************************************************
The same thing occurs pretty frequently with the independent contractors that Amazon employs for its one day delivery program. Well get delivered on front porch status but the item wont show up until an hour or two later.
Im used to it and know that the couriers are doing it to meet their time quotas/standards. When I do see these folks, theyre ALWAYS hustling and working hard trying to earn a living. So I wouldnt dream of complaining about them for an hour or two delay.
And the machines read the mail without its being opened.
I know what you mean. They usually are placed under impossible schedules and I would not think of complaining but the USPS will show that my Prime package has been delivered on time and then it shows up two to four days later. I don't recollect ever having a UPS or Fed Ex package delivered late.
The USPS is still working off their old operating procedures so they have to fudge the data to pretend they are doing well.
I remember quite a few years ago I had to send some signed documents from here in Virginia to my parents in Michigan. I was buying some land there and my parents were going to get it to the lawyer up there as it was needed ASAP. I sent them from the Post Office when it opened at 8AM and paid for next day service. They told me it would be there no later than noon the next day. The papers arrived three days later and when I went back to complain they just shrugged and told me they tried but things happen. Thank goodness things worked out but I was not a happy camper.
That’s interesting. We had a bill with a problem yesterday and the bank said, we see that you are sending in the second payment so we will apply it to the first, and the first payment when it arrives will be applied to the second.
So they could see that the mail was coming.
creepy
Are you a libertarian yet?

Guy, you need a life...
My mil had this issue.
She had this option called locals who picked up her mail and forwarded the occasional important piece.
It is about making relationships with the people around you. And not relying on the government for solutions to every issue in your life.
Lol
I think it’s great you MIL was able to set that up. I can tell you in Vail, CO they are not that cooperative. They think you are lucky they deliver it at all.
Hmmm...sorta looks like a mini-pic of the BIG-PIC out there!
;)

Open borders is favored by some Libertarians.
I, and many of my ilk, are small ‘l’ libertarians who believe the function of government is to defend the borders, deliver the mail, and leave us alone. I’m not so sure about delivering the mail ... LOL
I have been using it as well for a while now. We run a home based business and get checks from clients so its nice to know when checks are coming and and when its nothing but junk mail.. and for what its worth they miss A LOT of mail Sometimes I get checks that were not scanned as well as some mail.
You insult someone’s intelligence because you don’t agree with an opinion?
You must be a liberal.
