Dan Rather Laments That Americans Think the Media Make Up Stories
Y: Alex Griswold November 7, 2017 5:37 pm
Former CBS journalist Dan Rather appeared on NBC "Today" on Tuesday where he lamented on the American people's lack of trust in the media.
"Theres a recent poll that said nearly half of people think the media make up stories," host Savannah Guthrie noted. "The media itself is under fire."
"What do you think the media needs to do better to enhance its own credibility?" she asked.
"We need to do a better job, we need to do our job. Our job is to bear witness, to be honest brokers of information, to be as accurate and fair as we possibly can," Rather said.
"I think most of the public understands that were under attack by very powerful people, including the president, for their own partisan, political, and ideological reasons," he concluded.
Rather infamously resigned as the anchor of "CBS Evening News" after going to air with a story only two months before the 2004 election claiming that then-candidate George W. Bush often went AWOL while serving in the Texas National Guard.

Stories are by definition made up.
What we want are reports.
Half of America thinks the media makes up the news, the othe half KNOW it.
Says the man that got fired for reporting a fake news story
Yeah Dan, THINK.
What a LIAR this guy is!
BTW, HEY DAN, next time you fabricate the news.....check for the appropriate type font. Maybe you won’t get busted so often?
Words fail me.
Wow.
Courage
I wonder if had the Media Research Center been around back in about 1972-73, Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew might have stayed on as President and Vice President for their full terms. Dan Rather and Walter Cronkite probably would not have gotten away with the nonsense they threw at the American public on a nightly basis.
Polar bear extinction and no pack ice by 2010 for starters Dan.
Rather is the Grandfather of Fake News, Pot Calling Kettle Black methinks.
Yep you can’t make this stuff up. A prominent person who actually clearly did make up a news story, lamenting that people think the media make things up.
Incredible that he can say this with a straight face.
I don’t think they make up stories as much as they don’t report stories.
If they make up something, they can be found out pretty easily in today’s information age.
If they just ignore something or do their usual out of context editing, the Lie is out there and is inadvertently repeated when somebody adds the part that was omitted and looks defensive in the process.
They are a sneaky bunch.
He who made up a huge whopper is lamenting making up whoppers? The whole friggin world is upside down!
Dam Blather
shouldn’t he be lamenting that the media spreads lies and distortions, instead of staying with the facts?

We don’t “think” that.
We know it.
