The NFL Quietly Changed Its Obscure Rule About Standing For The National Anthem
Deadspin.com ^ | Oct 9, 2017 | Diana Moskovitz

Having gotten all the public relations it wanted (even a hackneyed Sports Illustrated cover), NFL leadership is now back to the more familiar demeanor of reminding its players to either get in line or join the unemployment line. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday that any player who is “disrespectful to the flag” won’t play. The league, then, itself upped the ante by feeding this tidbit to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, which he reported before the station’s broadcast of [Tonight's] Monday Night Football.

Mortensen later tweeted more details based on that policy and his conversation with Jones.

(snip)

Jones emphasized NFL game ops manual several times and then this: "You know who reminded me about the game ops policy? Donald Trump."

What the heck is the the “game operations manual”? Officially titled “Policy Manual for Member Clubs,” it’s not a document easily accessed from the NFL website, like the NFL rulebook is. Indeed, the only current portion of the document publicly available is the short anthem-related portion the league has been feeding to various sources for several weeks. But the policy—the NFL is clear to define it as such, rather than “rule”—hasn’t always been phrased that way....

Some smart people with money to invest could start another league.

Heck, you don't even have to do that. Just come up with a good way to stream all the local high school football games(you would have to cover a couple of thousand games a week, but the rights fees would be extremely reasonable). Most high schools probably have some sort of video/technology class who would help you out with the production. I could easily spend the whole weekend trying to watch all the teams in my area.

Realistically the NFL will not be destroyed this year.

It will slowly bleed out over the next few years—its leftist corpse stinking up the landscape.

While the tip of the spear of the problem are some racist black players, it is the limp-wristed owners that have sealed their fate.

Kneeling is kneeling. It’s all in support of the flavor of the day BLM whine. It’s all about disrespect.

The LEFT wants to paint the kneeling as a correct response to racial injustice by their white masters. It's the same message that was tried in Charlottesville: The BLM is right to do this just like the leftist ANTIFACA was right to beat the car with baseball bats that led to the death of a leftist female who had climbed on the back of a car.

I have news for the leftists such as Hillary ROTTEN Clinton. Screw the FACIST left, put the players on the unemployment lines and screw the anti-American NFL.

Hussein and his band of traitors will be exposed as they continue their treasonous acts that only a community organizer would try to make work. One day, Hussein, they will come to arrest you. And I hope you and your Muslim buddies resist arrest.

What the narcissistic black racists NFL players and their enablers NEVER got is how offensive the arrogance is. Who the *ell are they, telling the fans that we should endure what the flag and national anthem are supposed to mean, because they said so?

How do they unravel it? Any NFL player with a drug conviction or criminal violation shouldn't get even a second chance. Sane owners (oxymoron?) never should've signed players with any drugs or lawbreaking in their backgrounds. Now, they should stay away from any players who got involved with the racist unpatriotic behavior. That's how they ended up with a league being bossed around by thugs for whom the rules don't apply.

All of that will never happen. So the NFL will not be saved. PS: Is anyone real comfortable that these thugs are playing hard or protecting those who aren't bullied by the un-American agenda?

Too little, too late.
Hey nfl, you can take your 80 percent thug unappreciative negros and go to hell.
Not going to watch your millionaires slam my country.

Just to be clear - in that pic they are kneeling before the anthem was played, but they stood during the playing of the anthem.

I keep hearing apologists point that out but it's meaningless to me that they then stood for the anthem. Whether it was before or after the anthem, they still took a knee to protest against Donald Trump and to protest against America.

I see Jerry Jones is doing some serious back-pedaling now that he realizes he made a poor judgement call but the fact is, Jerry Jones engaged in virtual signaling in a pathetic attempt to gain "street cred" with his players.

Most certainly, some true American in a team office sent Trump the manual and the choice part of it.

Will you still feel this way if the NFL comes out tmw and mandates the policy?

I haven’t watched an NFL game all season, but if they came out and apologized, then mandated respect for the flag by all players who wish to play in any given game, I’d reconsider.

It could serve as a victory and lesson for the future. “Remember when the NFL allowed players to disrespect the flag and anthem? Remember how the country reacted?”

Why let these leftists take away another tradition? Don’t forget that the vast majority of players, coaches, and staff stand for the anthem with their hands over their hearts.

Since the NFL has gone full SJW will they sever ties with Entertainers who write lyrics that are racist, homophobic, misogynist or insulting to religion?
The NFL must also force all its players to undergo sensitivity training since THEY are trying to force the fans to undergo brainwa...er, sensitivity training.

It’s called a slippery slope for a reason. Now if the League suddenly announced that one of their linemen had found a cure for all forms of cancer they MIGHT be able to reverse course. Mealy mouth announcements are way to little, too late.

I work in an airport and see the traveling public every day.

It was quite common to see people sporting their favorite NFL team colors and jerseys as they travel.

That has changed. You see very few NFL jerseys now; and I live in Pittsburgh!

I thought these owners were hard nose businessmen.

They are a bunch of pansies.

The proof is that Roger Goodell has not been fired by now.

I guess they will wait until the value of their franchises goes to zero.

It’s called quibbling and it used to get you tossed out of the Air Force Academy for doing it as it was considered a violation of the honor code.

Need to start thinking about re-purposing all of those stadiums into something of value.
