Having gotten all the public relations it wanted (even a hackneyed Sports Illustrated cover), NFL leadership is now back to the more familiar demeanor of reminding its players to either get in line or join the unemployment line. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday that any player who is disrespectful to the flag wont play. The league, then, itself upped the ante by feeding this tidbit to ESPNs Chris Mortensen, which he reported before the stations broadcast of [Tonight's] Monday Night Football.
Mortensen later tweeted more details based on that policy and his conversation with Jones.
(snip)
Jones emphasized NFL game ops manual several times and then this: "You know who reminded me about the game ops policy? Donald Trump."
What the heck is the the game operations manual? Officially titled Policy Manual for Member Clubs, its not a document easily accessed from the NFL website, like the NFL rulebook is. Indeed, the only current portion of the document publicly available is the short anthem-related portion the league has been feeding to various sources for several weeks. But the policythe NFL is clear to define it as such, rather than rulehasnt always been phrased that way....

This will lead to more social justice signaling which will lead to even more fan antipathy.
NFL, you’re screwed.
Nope. Jerry, you've already been caught kneeling. You've shown your true colors, not that we haven't known for all these years. Never did like you. Landry must be rolling in his grave.
Don’t care. Done with them forever.
Yeah that was always there.Nothing has changed.Plus it has no teeth - “may” means spineless NFL.
And?
Yep, the flame is out. The players, owners and the league pissed all over it.
Unfortunately this is exactly the result the left wanted. It has nothing to do with “social justice” or “free speech.” It was always about the destruction of yet another traditional, male-oriented American cultural institution. They won. Everybody else lost.
you planted a bitter seed, the equally bitter harvest is at hand. You did it to yourselves and only NFL personnel are to blame for this.
Spit on your fans, and your fans will spit right back at you.
you all can go back to being street corner thugs for all I care.
Jerry Jones is to Alger Hiss as
Oh
Blah blah bla
It is the flag.
Deal with the consequences
The time to apologize and enforce their rule or policy or whatever was immediately. Now, I do not believe they are motivated to do the right thing, merely coerced by falling revenue. Their motivation is highly suspect. This former fan is going to remain a former fan.
Doesn’t say anything about their hand over the their heart and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Could be stronger in my estimation.....or is this too little, too late?
Just to be clear - in that pic they are kneeling before the anthem was played, but they stood during the playing of the anthem.
There are still football fans out there. Some smart people with money to invest could start another league. I think it is over for the NFL but I don’t think it has to be over for professional football.
The NFL has another huge issue growing. They are not issuing penalties for thugs refusing to be present on the field during the anthem. How do they intend to penalize players for other infractions? When you don’t enforce rules uniformly, anarchy and anger will follow. Wait until the next time they try to punish someone for wearing 911 cleats. In fact, Jerry Jones wants to get back on America’s good side? Stick that cop memorial sticker on the helmets and dare Goodell to do something about it.
Yeah, they stood, with interlocked arms. Screw them! I got the message.
Yeah, we know. Doesn’t matter. Kneeling is kneeling. It’s all in support of the flavor of the day BLM whine. It’s all about disrespect.
