The NFL Quietly Changed Its Obscure Rule About Standing For The National Anthem
Deadspin.com ^ | Oct 9, 2017 | Diana Moskovitz

Having gotten all the public relations it wanted (even a hackneyed Sports Illustrated cover), NFL leadership is now back to the more familiar demeanor of reminding its players to either get in line or join the unemployment line. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Monday that any player who is “disrespectful to the flag” won’t play. The league, then, itself upped the ante by feeding this tidbit to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, which he reported before the station’s broadcast of [Tonight's] Monday Night Football.

Mortensen later tweeted more details based on that policy and his conversation with Jones.

(snip)

Jones emphasized NFL game ops manual several times and then this: "You know who reminded me about the game ops policy? Donald Trump."

What the heck is the the “game operations manual”? Officially titled “Policy Manual for Member Clubs,” it’s not a document easily accessed from the NFL website, like the NFL rulebook is. Indeed, the only current portion of the document publicly available is the short anthem-related portion the league has been feeding to various sources for several weeks. But the policy—the NFL is clear to define it as such, rather than “rule”—hasn’t always been phrased that way....

So Donald Trump, who’s never read their policy manuals, knows them better than they do? Really?

Ef the NFL. Go bankrupt, you ingrates. Slapping the country and cops around many, many times will get you what you deserve.

Given these latest developments—namely, NFL owners and management rediscovering their testicles as a result of the financial "incentives" provided by the fans—I have to express my conviction that rumors of the NFL's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

If the situation had stayed the same, I have no doubt there would have been severe repercussions, but I am convinced that many fans will adopt a more forgiving attitude, now that the league has seen the error of its ways in indulging these spoiled millionaire players' temper tantrums.

After all, I seriously doubt that any NFL fans—current or former—really want to see the Left win by destroying the NFL.

So let the chips fall where they may, but I say again that the NFL isn't likely to just dry up and blow away like some here are smugly predicting.

Americans are a forgiving lot, and any contrition that is expressed will likely go a long way towards preserving the league for a few more years yet...

They won. Everybody else lost.

I disagree.

the networks, ESPN especially, used every nfl broadcast to promote their agenda. they have torched that. and, peripherally, they torched the leftist cable industry, the despicable disney family destroying machine and the nfl tax consuming leech.

we won. they lost.

I hope what you say does not come true.

Liberals already destroyed the NFL and the player’s union.

Look up a recent Rush thread and read what’s been donated to liberal far left causes for years.

Just to be clear, I am done with the NFL and their advertisers. For good.

Say what you want about Jones - I think he’s a stand-up guy.

Now they are nuancing and parsing and hair-splitting.

Kneeling before or after the anthem is not technically disrespecting the flag, but it is a protest [of what, then?].

Linking arms during the anthem, but not putting one’s hand over one’s heart, is technically a show of unity but that behavior shows no respect for the flag.

Raising a power salute [or Nazi salute or any other salute] while standing for the anthem is apparently not a form of disrespect any more.

That is how complications arise when they try to appease everyone.

He wasn't standing a week or so ago, was he?

Yup, a real principled guy.

It ain't over till DJT the POTUS says it's over. So, if they want it to be over, they better find a proxy (a minority, or several, preferably players and even better Kaepernick) to go see the big boy up in the White House. Else it's going to be a long fall and winter.

This is rich, the National Felon League chose to side with hate America, only blm, sjw, hate whitey, communist anarchists over America and their own nfl fan base and now their fan base has been totally alienated and the very monsters they willingly aligned themselves with have turned on them and are now eating them alive.

The nfl has awoken to the reality that the ENTIRE LEAGUE, has an INCURABLE CASE OF SELF INFLICTED FINANCIAL EBOLA and is literally hemorrhaging money out of every conceivable orafice to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars a week with no way out and no end in sight.

The once financially lucrative nfl is circling the toilet bowl of obscurity and is quickly becoming totally irrelevant and utterly worthless.

We choose to STAND with Americans for America; we choose to "Live Free or Die", rather than "huddle up", "bend the knee" and subjugate ourselves, our families, and our beloved nation to the racist, socialist, PC tyranny and perverted ideology of the National Felon League.

Don'the be deceived by this ploy ALL THE nfl REALLY LOVES AND CARE ABOUT IS THE MONEY, THAT IS ALL!

The godless, anti-American, anti-Christian (Tim Tebow) black racist (ONLY Black Lives Matter), sjw, leftist National Felon League literally strangled to death their fan base "goose that laid all of their billion dollar nfl solid gold eggs" with their own hands. The goose is PERMANENTLY DEAD and THEY KILLED IT! Now, all too late they want to put Humpty Dumpy back together again and resurrect the goose from the dead.

Your argument is nothing but empty semantics:

Before, during or after the anthem it doesn't matter WHEN the Dallas Cowerers linked arms, clenched their fists and "bent the knee" in open rebellion; the point is they ALL DID IT, INCLUDING THE OWNER, MANAGER, ALL OF THEM!

The team chose to UNANIMOUSLY disrespect America, spit on our country, our military, our law enforcement, their own now former fan base and join/side with with black racist, only black lives matter, sjw, antifa, PC pink and all of the other anti-American, anti-Christian, anarchists who HATE America and EVERYTHING it stands for, INCLUDING THEIR FANS.

The NFL is the left.   (Do you think anti-Trumpers and anti-American flag/National Anthem despisers like the NFL players, coaches, and owners have proven themselves to be, are conservatives?)

It's worse than that. I'm no financial wizard, but the NFL has contracts with networks, and must deliver a product. It would be interesting to know the terms of those contracts, and if the NFL has breached them.

If the NFL meltdown gets bad enough, networks will have to run for the exit.

I STILL have seen nothing about ‘hand over heart’

You don’t get the change or leave off anything other than the traditional way.

Anything else is still a slap in the face...

Coach is parsing words very carefully...
