Tom Price, secretary of the U.S. Health and Human Services Department, is leaving the Trump administration amid a furor over his taking more than two dozen costly private plane trips instead of less-expensive commercial flights.
The White House said in a statement that President Donald Trump intends to tap Don Wright to serve as acting secretary. Wright currently serves as deputy assistant secretary for Health and director of the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion.
Price's announced departure Friday from the administration came a day after he said he would reimburse taxpayers for just a small fraction of the cost of his flights, and after he vowed to not use charter planes in the future.
Price — a longtime critic of wasteful federal spending and the administration's putative point man on attacking Obamacare — had taken 26 flights on charter plans since May, according to a Politico investigation.

In June, Price traveled on a $17,760 roundtrip charter from Washington to Nashville, Tennessee, Politico revealed. He spent less than six hours there, making two official appearances and eating lunch with his son.
How frequent are commercial flights between D.C. and Nashville?

Mixed emotions on this. First, HHS secretary is vested with very broad discretion and power to change Obamacare administratively and to grant or deny waivers. Huge power. Price was a good man to get through the confirmation thicket, even tho we damn near lost the house seat he had to vacate. Noiw we have to send another appointee through the gauntlet, and they be forced to give up more commitments to Congress to don’t do this and don’t do that.
Second, I am sure that Obama’s people abused funding much more than this, especially Moochelle, but it is being portrayed that Price is the most egregious waster of taxpayer money. He was on public business.
I believe it is Pelosi who flys to California every week on our dime...Leon Pinetta flew to Washington State every week on our dime...Actually he supposedly paid the gov’t what the cost of a commercial seat would have cost him...And then there’s Eric Holder...
How about Sen. Rand Paul? He wants to get rid of Obamacare.....supposedly.
Nancy Lugosi would fly commercial, but there’s not enough room for her coffin in first class.

It sickens me, some of the posts are like a little kid saying “but he did it too”.
Conservatives are supposed to be the adults in the room; it’s not my concern what standards the Democrats do, or do not, hold themselves to.
I think Pelosi flew private when she was Speaker and thus 3rd in line to the President. I think most speakers have done something similar for awhile.

Half the crap in Obamacare is crap that Kathleen Sebelius decided as head of HHS. Tom Price had the power to redo Obamacare all by his little old self because of all the ....HHS shalls...in it. I haven’t heard of him doing one dang thing. Have you? Forget his travel expenses. I’d have fired him for not doing anything.
This calls for patience. Lots and lots of it.

(Rumor has it that she has been known at times to fly around under her own power, without the use of any kind of aircraft. Of course, she still has to fly her coffin around to her destinations in a private plane though...)
Actually, it’s worse. Total travel expense was one million dollars. Yikes!
Not justifying bad behavior. Just pointing out the media hypocrisy in not providing any comparison.
