7.1 earthquake rocks Mexico City, central Mexico

A magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck the central Mexican state of Puebla on Tuesday afternoon, the US Geological Survey said. Preliminary reports put the epicenter 2.8 miles (4.5 kilometers) east-northeast of San Juan Raboso and 34.1 miles (55 km) south-southwest of the city of Puebla, according to the USGS. It was felt in the center of Mexico City, which is only about 75 miles (121 km) from the epicenter.

The earthquake struck at a depth of about 33 miles (51 km). There were no immediate reports of injuries.

The governor of Puebla said on Twitter that there were reports of damaged buildings. Tony Gali urged residents to follow civil protection security protocols. Adrian Wilson, a photographer from New York City who was visiting his fiancee, was eating in the capital when the earthquake struck. "I was having lunch when the floor gently rocked as if a big truck went by," Wilson said. "It then amplified in waves and the whole room started shaking. The building is from the 1930s and just survived a big earthquake, so I knew I would be OK." Wilson told CNN: "It just seemed like a truck was going over a manhole cover and the building was slightly shaking. And it just magnified and magnified and the whole room was shaking." President Enrique Pena Nieto tweeted, "I have called a meeting for the National Emergency Committee to evaluate the situation and to coordinate any actions. Plan MX has been activated."

Tectonic Summary The September 19, 2017, M 7.1 earthquake in Central Mexico occurred as the result of normal faulting at a depth of approximately 50 km. Focal mechanism solutions indicate that the earthquake occurred on a moderately dipping fault, striking either to the southeast, or to the northwest. The event is near, but not directly on, the plate boundary between the Cocos and North America plates in the region. At the location of this event, the Cocos plate converges with North America at a rate of approximately 76 mm/yr, in a northeast direction. The Cocos plate begins its subduction beneath Central America at the Middle America Trench, about 300 km to the southwest of this earthquake. The location, depth, and normal-faulting mechanism of this earthquake indicate that it is likely an intraplate event, within the subducting Cocos slab, rather than on the shallower megathrust plate boundary interface.

Just heard on the news, the Mexican officials had just completed earth quake drills prior to the quake. I think different officials around the world are paying attention to dutchsinse.com as he has been putting out warning which have been pretty accurate. As opposed to the USGS which has apparently not been listing the smaller earthquakes which have been predicted to try and discredit the forecasting.

But then again government scientists are political scientists.

I have been watching dutchsinse.com on line where he answers your questions precisely and even tells you how to forecast earthquakes on your own.

His site has youtube connection for his previous global predictions. He comes on live in the evenings for about an hour long spiel. That video appears on youtube later where you can skip to regions of interest.

The earthquake hit on the anniversary of the 1985 quake. The drills had been scheduled for that same date with respect to the 1985 quake anniversary.
