President Donald Trump says he isnt considering giving citizenship to illegal immigrants, but his spokeswoman Lindsay Walters and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi say he is.
Trump tweeted last week that he wants Congress to legalize DACA, a departure from his campaign trail rhetoric that he wouldnt support amnesty. According to CNN, Walters told reporters Thursday that the Trump administration will not discuss amnesty, but what they will discuss is a responsible path forward.
Walters then defined a responsible path as potentially including legal citizenship over a period of time. The White House has been using responsible immigration reform as a euphemism for amnesty.
Shortly after Walters comments, however, Trump told reporters, Were not looking at citizenship, were not looking at amnesty. Were looking at allowing people to stay here.

The turd polishers are out in force today.
“Did you know that a law cannot be past to negate a violation of the preexisting laws. That is EX post facto”
The law can generally be changed to forgive, but never to punish.
However, naturalization requires a “uniform Rule”.
from Article I, Section 8:
“To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, and uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States;”
That “uniform Rule” restriction absolutely forbids election-motivated pandering to immigrants, legal or illegal.
Even if Congress voted 100% to naturalize them and Trump signed the bill, it would be Constitutionally void.
The Constitution would have to be changed to legalize the illegals. That should not be done without permanent Constitutional tax and revenue caps.
Not. Citizenship allows them to VOTE. Green card equivalent status (permanent legal residency) does NOT include the right to vote. HUGE difference.
No confusion. President Trump said on the tarmac at Fort Meyers, Florida that there will be no citizenship for these DACA people.
Not. Citizenship allows them to VOTE. Green card equivalent status (permanent legal residency) does NOT include the right to vote. HUGE difference.
“Citizenship allows them to VOTE. Green card equivalent status (permanent legal residency) does NOT include the right to vote. HUGE difference.”
Until Democrats regain the control they had when they passed the PPACA, or maybe even sooner.
Texas, California and many other states now have lots of Hispanic voters.
And yes, our Republican “leaders” will sell us out, another time.
I suggest permanent Constitutional tax and revenue caps for legalization, one amendment, one deal.
The birthright citizenship clause needs to go too.
Newborns to get the citizenship of their mom at birth under the legalization amendment.
No more anchor baby problems - for anybody.
If they are permitted to stay (WORK) then they are green-lighted for continuing ID theft and the ongoing corrosive effects of various traitor pols who will easily agitate them into amnesty over time.
“Realistically, there is and has always been zero percent chance that the US government is going to round up and deport 800,000 people who were born here and have never known any other country.
“People like to indulge in fantasies all the time, but there is reality.”
My mother was the child of immigrants.
She and all her five siblings spoke her parents’ non-English language fluently.
The Constitutional reality is the Article I, Section 8 “uniform Rule” naturalization requirement means their dreams are going nowhere without a Constitutional amendment - one that ends new birthright citizenship and imposes permanent protective tax and revenue caps on all levels of government.
And that “uniform Rule” applies to naturalization at any level, either just staying or full citizenship.
Bait and Switch Donny has made suckers of us all.
Barely half a year into office and he’s turned hard left.
It’s all but certain that the third-world invasion of our homeland is set to accelerate, not slow, under this loser.
It appears that you are bit new to this issue. Study up and come back when you know more.
So add a third category, permanent residency without citizenship....ever. Call it a "red card". Nothing prevents the Congress from doing so.
I voted for him for the same reason, but also for our illegal immigration problem. I live in Ca and they’re everywhere! It’s an invasion! If Trump doesn’t stick to his campaign promises, he’s probably going to be a 1 term president. More amnesty means more Democrats!
I expect a GOP Congress to prevent a Dream Act from passing - maybe. Hopefully, it's DOA in the Senate. But whether you call it DACA or a "red card", it's amnesty. They need to be kept illegal. They need to leave or be deported one day. Because any amnesty encourages new illegal aliens to come here. The median American man has not seen a real income increase for 40 years. It's time to curb the new inflow of labor - legal or other otherwise.
Realistically, there is and has always been zero percent chance that the US government is going to round up and deport 800,000 people who were born here and have never known any other country.
People like to indulge in fantasies all the time, but there is reality.
In 2020 a new census will be required under the Constitution.
We have to count everybody in the USA.
And we can check paperwork too.
My tax/revenue cap and birthright citizenship & naturalization amendment proposal is on the table, for now.
In 2020? Adios, amigos.
Two weeks, two months, two years!
My amendment proposal is more than fair:
It’s our country and our money and our property.
The USA is not the dreamers’ country.
The so-called Dreamers weren't born here. They were brought here illegally as young children. Most of them know no other home, but America, which is why this is such a contentious issue.
I said here recently that I was afraid he’d sell us out. And damn it I think he did. Thanks Mr. President. Thanks a whole bunch.
“The issue is rewarding those who have broken our laws with Americans jobs, free healthcare, welfare, social security that they never paid for. Amnesty is about inducing others to flood in with or without children. They vote anyway”
One need only see what occurred in College Park Maryland yesterday to see where this is headed. The city council (not city residents) voted to allow non-citizens to vote on the basis that they are members of the community who should have a vote in the interests of that community.
“The reality is allowing all people to vote in municipal elections is going to make College Park more inclusive, and that has been the history of voting rights expansion in the United States and what has happened in our neighbors in Maryland who have expanded voting rights to non-U.S. citizens, said Todd Larson, who is in favor of the proposal.”
Anybody who thinks this municipal trend will not be pushed nationally is wearing rose-colored glasses.
If non-citizens are already voting illegally, the logic will be that we should encourage them to “come out of the shadows”. After all, as residents of the US, shouldn’t they have a voice in the governance of their country of residence?
I’ll take the shadows over any euphemism for amnesty.
“All I wanted from Trump and all I expected was to keep Hillary out of the White House and for him to nominate a conservative to fill Scalias seat on the SCOTUS.”
I had higher hopes for the agenda, but if this is what we get, it’s light years better than the alternative. No other Republican candidate would have won.
I just hope that Gorsuch doesn’t turn out to be another Roberts.
Trump has achieved so e victories in lower court appointments too.
