Is Angela Merkel's huge lead in German pre-election polls accurate?
Deutsche Welle ^ | 09.12.2017 | Jefferson Chase

The German election has two faces. Most observers consider the race at the top over, with conservative Chancellor Angela Merkel running around 15 percent ahead of her Social Democratic (SPD) rival Martin Schulz. Yet skepticism remains about the accuracy of pre-election opinion surveys. After all, the overwhelming majority of pollsters failed to predict victories for the pro-Brexit camp in the UK and Donald Trump in the US.

The methodologies used by German pollsters range from the telephone interviews employed by established organizations like Infratest dimap and Forsa, which have standing contracts with major news outlets, and online surveys used by the up-and-coming platform YouGov. The center-left SPD is drawing hope from polls that show almost half of voters may be undecided. But pollsters say those hopes are in vain.

“It would be the first election in the history of humankind in which all undecided voters ran to one party with flags flying,” Infratest dimap Managing Director Nico A. Siegel told DW. “Our most recent numbers show no greater potential for the Social Democrats than for [Merkel’s] CDU-CSU.” Forsa points out that voters consistently rate the conservatives as more capable than their rivals on most issues.

Even YouGov, which put the gap between the Christian Democrats (CDU), together with their Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union (CSU), and the SPD at slightly less wide in the survey it published on September 6, says the indicators favor Merkel. “I don’t doubt in the CDU-CSU’s lead,” YouGov head of research Holger Geissler explained to DW. “It comes from a far many institutes who all work independently of another. We’d all be very surprised if Schulz made up the deficit.” …

If so they’re damned fools. They may as well go ahead with sharia law.

It’s like picking between Hitler and Stalin. Or between a Clinton and a Bush.

The AfD is likely to top 10%, the only good news in the German elections.

Should be just as accurate as Hillary’s huge lead in American polls.

There are only 2 possible outcomes for this election in Germany.

Merkel wins which would be catastrophic.

Or Schultz wins which would be even worse.

There is no viable right-of-center in German politics. Groups and individuals on the right are slandered and silenced by the government and by the media. Just look at how the AfD candidate was treated at the debate! It’s really quite hopeless and Germany is going to take all of Europe down with it.

You make that sound like it's a bad thing.

Seems to me that was where Hillary was last October. Then someone played their TRUMP card.

Yes it’s accurate. They have a totally screwed liberal view of the world. Germany is doing well economically and they all have liberal guilt.

Should be just as accurate as Hillary’s huge lead in American polls.

The fix was in here, the fix is in there. SCREW them both. I look forward to Angela's book explaining how she lost.

That phrase “full employment” is a left-wing phrase. It even appears in the Treaty of Lisbon:
The Union shall establish an internal market. It shall work for the sustainable development of Europe based on balanced economic growth and price stability, a highly competitive social market economy, aiming at full employment and social progress, and a high level of protection and improvement of the quality of the environment. It shall promote scientific and technological advance. …
Selling out freedom for temporary inflation of the economy leads to a sticky end in the long run.

That depends. Reelection of Merkel means Germany is doomed. But with the good economy she’s probably guarantee the election.

They are screwed no matter what. The guy running against her is even worse then angela is. They really don’t have a great option this election. I guess keep the one you know is better. The other candidate is a wacko.
