Montreal (AFP) - Canada expects migrants to continue border jumping from the United States for many more months, and officials said Friday they are readying temporary accommodation to deal with the surge through winter.
A harsh winter is around the corner, and the government launched an urgent call for the winterized mobile homes.
Many of the more than 7,000 migrants who crossed on foot from the US state of New York into Canada's Quebec province since July 1 have been housed in tent cities near the border set up by the military.
Others were put up at Montreal's Olympic stadium and other venues until better accommodations could be found.
"These tents do have heaters, but we also have a very, a very cold winter in this country," said Transportation Minister Marc Garneau, who is also chairing an emergency task force to deal with the surge in asylum seekers.
"And so we are, as a precautionary measure, looking at the possibility of trailers... which have a more robust capability to be able to house people in colder conditions."
Temperatures in eastern Canada dropped to 6 degrees Celsius (43 Fahrenheit) at night at the end of August and could fall further in the coming weeks.

As much as I think Canada deserves to have to experience what we have, for shooting their mouths off in criticism, we shouldn’t accept the part of Mexico in all this.
We need to shut down the passage of people into Canada that aren’t here legally.
Take them into custody and deport them.
Ultimately a wall isn’t the answer. Liberals are lying when they say deportation and law enforcement won’t work. There are ways to identify illegal aliens if we were allowed to use them. It’s not a privacy issue as Democrats have claimed.
Best they wait until December since igloos don't hold up very well in warm weather........

In the last few years I've spent a few nights in a small town about 200 miles north of Montreal...all of them having been in January.In this town I've experienced overnight temps of -20F and -40F.
I can guarantee ya that that's cold!
I’m thinking Port Nelson or Churchill, Manitoba would be a good place for them! Maybe some of them could get acquainted with the polar bear population if they miss their pet goats!
Canada will eventually receive their “baptism by fire” and then understand WHY America wanted these ILLEGALS GONE.

Migrant, refugee, undocumented. Take them all . If these people had arrived in The United States, with the purpose of wanting to become Americans, then Iam all for it. With border crossings rapidly decreasing and these others wanting to go to Socialist Canada, good ridence! . My allegiance is to my family, my country and my my God, not these invaders ,who only wish to leach off the system meant to support our own citizens.

They don’t have to evict white Canadians to make room- all they need to do is wait for winter and they’ll pack their bags for Florida, leaving their homes unguarded and empty.
Most of Canada is North of North Dakota.
