...In late 1998, the prestigious scientific journal Nature announced that it had conducted DNA testings which proved that Thomas Jefferson had fathered a child with Sally Hemings. According to Nature:
Almost two hundred years ago, Thomas Jefferson was alleged to have fathered children by his slave Sally Hemings. The charges have remained controversial. Now, DNA analysis confirms that Jefferson was indeed the father of at least one of Hemings’ children.1

Because after proving that Jefferson had not fathered Woodson, it was revealed that their paternity conclusions about Jefferson fathering Eston were based on inaccurate and incomplete information, both scientifically and historically.
While the researchers did find Jefferson genes present in the descendants of Eston Hemings, the researchers could not say that they were the genes of Thomas Jefferson, for they had not tested the DNA of any of Thomas’ descendants. They tested only the genes of the descendants of Thomas’ uncle, Field Jefferson, and of his nephews, Samuel and Peter Carr! Significantly, there were twenty-six Jefferson males living in the central Virginia vicinity at that time. Quite simply, the researchers failed to eliminate the other lines. As one report accurately observed, “Experts have noted the total absence of accurate Jefferson ancestry charts in the study.” 8

I can see why history gets so screwed up, instead of looking for the “truth” they look for arguments to bolster each “side”...

I think it’s very unlikely that Thomas was in love with Sally; but very possible that his brother Randolph was.

It is well worth the time to read the historical report published by Monticello on their research into the possible relationship between Mr. Jefferson and Sally Hemmings.
Additionally, last year they found Sally Hemmings’ quarters when they were restoring an area of the house that had been turned in to a men’s bathroom early in the 20th century. They are now in the processor of restoring it.
The truth can be manipulated. Read 1984 again.
Most of what I read is history (I am currently reading a biography of Louis XIV). People who read or study or write history will sometimes come to a point where no one knows for certain if something happened or not. I read a book that alleged that Napoleon was poisoned to death on St. Helena. Maybe he was. But maybe wasn’t. Sometimes, the end of the road is just a “maybe”. The Thomas Jefferson/Sally Hemmings story is just such a “maybe”. It is wrong IMO to stretch a “maybe” into a “known fact”.
There was nothing wrong with jeffererson that would stop him from being a father ...he had several with his white wife...
so he could have been the father of Sally’s children...at least some of them...
it would be interesting to see if the descendants are his children...
another DNA test with direct white descendants would be necessary for this to work...
since Jefferson and sally had an ongoing sexual relationship there is little to prove that he was not the father...
It’s to me sort of curious that there has been no specific discussion of chromosomes. Do any male descendants of Sally Hemmings have the Jefferson Y chromosome, or are we strictly talking X chromosome here, since the Carr nephews keep coming up? Or, is it an X chromosome attributable to Randolph Jefferson? Innuendoes don’t prove a thing. Proof of paternity is a scientific endeavor, is it not, or are we dealing yet again with political science?
Which Jefferson? Give it a rest. This is a political hoax. TJ was born in 1743, and SH in 1773. There is NO PROOF in any writings of TJ or anyone else that he was involved with SH. It is leftist speculation emanating from the need to excuse Bubba Clinton’s rape and sexual assault history.

I remember this story making headlines during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. The Mainstreams were willing, even then, to take down a founding father to make Clinton not look so bad.
He was. Napoleon used to give away locks of his hair as "gifts" and upon his death, more locks of hair were taken.
Researchers contacted the people who had these samples of Napoleon's hair and the dates they were taken, and they analyzed these hair with a mass spectrometer. They found increasing levels of arsenic rising to fatal levels just prior to his death.
Doctors also examined his described symptoms which were recorded at the time, and all his symptoms were consistent with arsenic poisoning. Further evidence is had in the fact that when his body was moved after having been buried for quite some time, it was in perfect condition with no signs of decay, as if he had died the day before.
This is also a characteristic of heavy arsenic poisoning because when arsenic gets into the cells of human tissue it kills bacteria that tries to consume the tissue.
The whole story is bunk. These story proponents are perpetrators of their own desired narrative to underpin their own historical fantasies built to serve their revisionist biases. BS on all of it.
I’ve also read that she very closely resembled his deceased wife. He couldn’t marry her at the time due to law and social attitudes but I’ve a strong feeling he would have if it was feasible.
The only reason people pore over this subject is because they think they see a chink in the public perception of the founders that they can exploit to drag them down...
IIRC, modern DNA testing can only establish that Sally Heming’s child may have been fathered by any one of the four Jefferson brothers (Thomas, Peter Thomas, Peter Field, or Randolph).
Wonder what George Jefferson would say about all this?

I think the magazine moved up the publication date of the article so that it would come out ahead of the 1998 elections.
