Harvey horror: Shivering tot found clinging to drowned mom

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) -- Authorities found a shivering toddler clinging to the body of her drowned mother in a rain-swollen canal in Southeast Texas after the woman tried to carry her child to safety from Harvey's floods.

Capt. Brad Penisson of the fire-rescue department in Beaumont said the woman's vehicle got stuck Tuesday afternoon in the flooded parking lot of an office park just off Interstate 10. Squalls from Harvey were pounding Beaumont with up to 2 inches (5 centimeters) of rain an hour at the time with 38 mph (60 kph) gusts, according to the National Weather Service.

Penisson said a witness saw the woman take her 18-month-old daughter and try to walk to safety when the swift current of a flooded drainage canal next to the parking lot swept them both away.

God has a purpose that I do not understand. But I believe in God. God bless the Toddler.

I hope the poor Woman wasn’t wearing Stiletto Heels.

If she was, the Liberals would say she deserved it.

Anyone who believes that the mayor of Houston should have ordered the evacuation of the city (or even just sections of it) should realize that this scene would likely have been multiplied thousands of times if a mass evacuation had been ordered.

Both a tragedy and miracle.

This is the first step. The presstitutes are searching to find the one defining image that they can link to the president.

Seems like that mother was holding her daughter up, even from the beyond.

The love of a mother. No other kind of love can even compare.

Beaumont is about a 1.5 hour drive directly east on I-10 from Houston.

When the water recedes, all kinds of horrors will be revealed.

This storm is also going to be by far the most expensive ever. Its going to become a budget and political football for years to come.

Yes, God’s love pales in comparison...

Jesus death on the cross doesn’t even come close.

Well, she obviously did not try to use her 18-month-old daughter as a floatation device. She kept her daughter from drowning right up to the end.

It’s a Texas culture thing that many others would not understand except for some in the lower two-thirds of the Midwest.

The mother was a Texan.

So sad. She probably should have stayed in the office park. Of course we all have done something similar at least once, i.e. venture out when bad rain/snow/tornado/ice/hurricanes/wildfire were forecast. We always think "won't happen to me!"

Yep, in the stupidity of youth I was a prime offender.

How do we know they were white..?

because that story is sad and we have seen no photos of it.

if they were Mexican or Muslim, photos of that would be plastered everywhere and you can be sure blame would somehow be laid at the stiletto heeled feet of the Trump family.

All the way up here in Louisville, I’ve heard the Beaumont Mayor on the radio three times saying, “There is NO WAY anyone could have predicted this for Beaumont... No way, no how”.

Really? Last Friday, all the weather reports I saw were predicting EXACTLY the path Harvey has taken. It may be the best predicted storm in history.

Not saying there’s much the Mayor could have done to better prepare. But lying about the ability to know what was coming is a cheap way to go.

#9: "storm is also going to be by far the most expensive ever"

Not a problem. The insurance lobbyists will get the government to fund their liability. McConnell and Ryan will the lead the charge, tripping over each other as they shove their way in front of CNN's cameras, in the race to take credit for the coming bailout.
