President Trump on Thursday refused to back down from critics who've ripped him for failing to condemn protests surrounding the removal of Confederate monuments, doubling down on his belief the statues should stay and questioning if the progressive movement would turn on America's Founding Fathers next.
In the aftermath of a deadly car attack Saturday -- following clashes at a largely white nationalist rally protesting the University of Virginia's plan to remove a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee -- Trump bemoaned the accelerated effort by many on the left to take down other symbols of the Confederacy.
"Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments. You can't change history, but you can learn from it. Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson - who's next, Washington, Jefferson? So foolish!" Trump wrote in several tweets.

When is the Art Community going step forward and put a stop to the destruction of works by great artists from another era? Artists who felt much closer to the pain and affect the Civil War had on our nation than anyone alive today can claim. Sometimes monuments to war, are reminders to not let it happen again. That’s the way I have always looked upon any Civil War monument or memorial, Union or Rebel. Maybe the reason they commission great artists to create these monuments is so they won’t be destroyed by politicians and the masses they control. Where is the Art Community?
With our happy slaves, of course.
Oh, just wait when they build on this and take up the cause of the native american indian...
... then again, I’m the guy who stated the 2nd Civil War began at noon on January 20, 2017.
All of that will be accelerated with Charlottesville used as an excuse.
“Where is the Art Community?” Enjoying afternoon apertifs of course. “Let the rabble destroy themselves and we’ll have some work to do when they’re done.” (using a haughty tone of course)
Agree 100% this is orchestrated and led by Obama with the help and funds of Soros. If those two could be put on a boat out of here the left would flail and fall.
“You can’t change history, but you can learn from it.”
Also certain is that a lot of people in this country have utterly refused to learn from History, preferring to go down the road of Fascism by restricting free speech through threats of violence. Most of the same people have also utterly failed to learn from a century of Leftists in power - the result is tens of millions executed and hundreds of millions to billions effectively enslaved...and they pine for more of this!!!!
How long have you been a member of antifa?
The president tweeted out this morning.
“Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments. You can’t change history, but you can learn from it.
Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson - who’s next, Washington, Jefferson? So foolish! Also the beauty that’s being taken out of our cities, towns and parks will be greatly missed and never able to be comparably replaced.”
It’s so refreshing to see a man with common sense as president. We are not ISIS and we’re not the old Soviet Union. We don’t smash and tear down symbols of our history, good or bad. To hell with his haters, which is the liberal media and the worthless republicans that hate him. The people elected Donald J. Trump. A man of the people, who does not cower down to the politically-correct elites. He speaks common sense and that’s why if the election were held today he would win again. Amen.
Bkmk
Wait until college classes resume, this crap is going to accelerate. Capitulating to these left wing thugs is merely going to embolden them to ramp up their campus protests.....
he should keep hammering this...people are furious over this.
Yes, agreed. He made some good points, also, not only about politics, but about beautiful things being taken away. The statue they destroyed in Durham the other day - ironically, a peace monument - was very beautiful, and some of the equestrian statues of generals, etc. Are also very striking.
Well, I've been told I do look good in black.
Does that count?
The left is doing this because they can. They have seen with issues such as homosexual “marriage” and “transgender” washrooms, that the media will support them no matter how outrageous or violent their conduct, that the Democratic party will support them 100% in order to secure yet another block of voters, and that the GOP politicians will run for cover and refuse to stand up for what is right. The wrath being directed at Trump is because he is the one man standing up to this insane surrender of America to a fringe group of radicals.
and Trump not arresting Soros and the rest of the billionaires financing the rioting.
I’d like to find a huge bag of small paper ones and fly over a liberal protest and dump them out over them; watch them shrivel up like the wicked witch.
It is time to remove the cosmoline.
