On the same week the NAACP sued the Trump administration over its voter fraud commission, NAACP Board Chairman Leon Russell criticized President Donald Trump for not speaking at this years NAACP convention, which kicks off this weekend in Baltimore.
On Wednesday, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that Trump was invited to speak but is not attending the event.
My understanding is that the invitation has been declined for this year, but certainly the invitation for dialogue with that group would happily take place, and we would certainly like to be able to continue to do that, Sanders said.
Russell considered the action a slap in the face.
During his campaign, President Trump asked us what do you have to lose?' Russell said. We get the message loud and clear. The presidents decision today underscores the harsh fact: We have lost weve lost the will of the current administration to listen to issues facing the black community.
Russell labeled Trumps decision a historic departure from past presidents engagements with the association because during their terms, former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan addressed the NAACP.

Geesh Louise......ALL this CRAP is to show OTHER Republicans not to even THINK about Running for ANYTHING!!
Well obviously they don’t want jobs. They want more government handouts out of guilt. Thus they continue to wallow in self-pity, blaming Whitey for their self-inflicted failures.
NAACP says Trump asked them “what do you have to lose”
Well, they STILL supported hilLIARy and are now complaining that Trump won’t kiss their ass.
Geesh Louise......ALL this CRAP is to show OTHER Republicans not to even THINK about Running for ANYTHING!!
Exactly. You go, they criticize you. They sue you. You don’t go, they criticize you. Bottom line; you’re Republican and alive; you’re dead.
So they sue , and then moan about him not attending their meeting where they will try and embarrass him in front of the cameras.
They sue about him not wanting voter fraud , and all this group has, and is a racist, welfare, give me, voter fraud , group who use blacks to keep their power, and pocket money going on , and on.
nothing trump would say would be accepted there anyways- they would criticism everything he says, how he stands, how he greets people, how he combs his hair, how he walks, how he breathes, etc etc etc
Show some respect Democrats/NAACP and maybe He will attend
Whiny whiny whiny...
George W. would have gone to the NAACP, and began to make his speech. He would then be loudly and rudely interrupted by protesters, then shouted down and forced to stand silent as BLM angrily and profanely lectured the President of the United States on their warped version of “What racism means to me.”.
George W. would later say that he was ‘Grateful!” for the verbal smackdown he had just publicly endured.
President Trump knows that turning the other cheek over and over just does not work with these groups.
The black community should fix their own issues. There shouldn’t even be a racist NAACP organization.
I wouldn’t go either. They were probably going to boo and turn their backs on him after Maxine Waters introduced him. Oh, the glee that would have given the MSM!
The NAACP and Congressional Black Caucas are both racist panhandlers.
whites in certain communities are facing problems too, so shall we set up a National association White advancement people.
Oh wait that would be racist. For a party who keeps saying diversity, tolerance, and come together, they sure have a lot of groups which segregate themselves. Why not just be American
“Russell labeled Trumps decision a ‘historic departure from past presidents engagements with the association...’
Well, I guess that’s because you didn’t SUE Clinton or 0bama now, did ya?
Invite another ‘Rat to speak; you’re too dumb to know who owns you.
One of the best things about Donald Trump is that the word “pander” apparently doesn’t exist in his vocabulary.
Wonder what the pimp’s stable looks like.
“The black community should fix their own issues. There shouldnt even be a racist NAACP organization.”
Apparently freedom is too much for some to handle.
I’m sure John Kasich will be more than happy to speak to them again this year.
This group is an anachronism.
