On her 12 p.m. ET hour show on Wednesday, MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell was worried that the clear Democratic affiliation and left-wing activism of the shooter who attacked members of Congress was going to be swept up in coverage of the violence and exploited by partisans.
She acknowledged that alleged shooter James T. Hodgkinson was a volunteer in [Bernie] Sanders campaign and that within his mental condition, there was, at least he felt, some sort of political motivation, as horrible as that is to even address. Correspondent Garrett Haake reporting from the scene of the attack in Alexandria, Virginia worried: ...you are seeing the suspects political activities get swept up into this....already the political and apparently anti-Republican leanings of this suspect are getting drawn into the conversation...
Mitchell echoed that sentiment: Yeah, and we can see that he, in still photos, has in the past been a protester. This will inevitably be swept up through social media.
Talking to Senator Claire McCaskill later on the program, Mitchell fretted: Do you have concerns, we just heard from Senator Sanders, that partisans on both sides are going to try to take advantage of the fact this alleged shooter was in some way connected to protests against Republicans?
The Missouri Democrat replied:
I hope not. This is not the first time a member of Congress has been shot by someone who clearly was not well and had evil in their heart. I hope its the last. But it is, I think, a big mistake to use this as a moment to find division among us, to take sides, to sign up for teams, to play gotcha politics.
McCaskill was quite right, six years ago, Arizona Congressman Gabrielle Giffords and several others were shot by Jared Loughner outside a grocery store on a Saturday morning. At that time, Democrats and liberal media figures like Mitchell had no problem jumping to false conclusions that the shooting was somehow inspired by Sarah Palin or conservative Tea Party activists.
Just two days after that attack, Mitchell began a report for NBCs Today by proclaiming: Sarah Palin responded to the tragedy in Tucson by offering condolences and prayers on her Facebook page. And while there is no indication that this suspect was inspired, in any way, by political speech the attack has reopened criticism of the way Palin targeted Gabby Giffords and 19 other Democrats in last years campaign.
The liberal journalist wasnt at all concerned with her reporting being swept up in politics or partisans trying to take advantage of the situation. So whats changed?
While it would clearly be wrong to blame Bernie Sanders, who strongly condemned Wednesdays shooting, or the Democratic Party at large for the violent actions of one disturbed individual, it was beyond outrageous for those on the left and in the press to do exactly that to the GOP in 2011.
If Mitchell and her colleagues want to be taken seriously when calling for political unity in times of crisis, they should first apologize for stoking such division in the past.
Maddow and Andrea and the rest of the criminal inciters
deserve indictment for SEDITION.
Boycott of their advertisers is no longer enough.
When we decide it’s time you’ll know it, you pock faced bitch.
Just a variation on the usual theme of their fearing Islamophobia following each murder carried out by the Allahu Akbar set...
Will the New York Julius Caesar play still be performed tonight where an actor will portray the President of the United States being assassinated?
Actually just heard on the ABC radio news a reporter say the shooter may have been targeting “one or the other of the political parties. We don’t know for sure.”
Unreal.
Lessee... a supporter of communist Bernie Sanders asks if those are republicans or democrats. Answer is republicans. Guy starts shooting. Maybe a little partisan.
I looked up Andrea Mitchell’s indian name it said “The Face of a Scrotum”
The left stream media now seeing what is sprouting up from what they’ve sown and desperate to deflect the blame...screw them.
Since discovering conservatism and being a vocal advocate of individual libery, free markets and limited government -- I can honestly say that I've never met or seen a liberal leftist who didn't have a mental condition -- college professors, acquaintances, girlfriends, politicians, whatever.
Why not Andrea?
It’s as valid as Mohammed’s name & religion when he goes on a killing spree.
Or are you going to try to paint this white guy as a frustrated crazed conservative in your everlasting battle to ban guns?
We should exploit this to the max. Start by throwing Rachel Maddow in the defensive.
IMHO, the next Republican who gets a “gotcha” question regarding gun control from a “journalist” should answer:
“Well, I would be open to a compromise whereby a legal ban on guns would be imposed on DEMOCRATS.”
“As you know, most of the mass “shooters” were DEMOCRATS.
So, let’s see taking guns away from DEMOCRATS reduces mass killings...”c
“That IS what you want to accomplish, isn’t it?”
Listening to the hypocritical democrats who allowed and in many cases deliberately stoked this division and violence is disgusting
And Andrea is NOT a partisan.
Occupational hazard.
All,
I have made note of the fact that the NYT, and now this group of liberal hacks are entirely useless and worthless. They can’t even bring themselves to use the correct term for the assailant which is perpetrator.
The term ‘suspect’ should not be used when the perp was shot and killed in the act. Period - words mean things. These journalists are intentionally misusing our language in almost every article or statement the MSM makes. I am sick and tired of their evil charades. They use misdirection to misguide others and obfuscate the truth.
They are a disgusting group of sub-humans known as pathological liars trying hold onto power and cover their worthless behinds-(keeping it family friendly).
It must be nice to be a progressive and have wagons that form a defensive circle without a driving intelligence.
You mean like the way the Media tries to make every other shooter a right wing, tea partying, NRA member?
