Up until now, the Democratic Party had gone 0-for-6 in Trump-era attempts to win GOP-held legislative seats, with Republicans actually adding to their tally in Louisiana. That changed in two northeastern states last night, where democrats won a pair of races, both of which must be considered significant upsets:

Typical of the scum sucking RINOs.
The #FakeNews tried to influence the general election, and we see them influencing these elections as well.
The hypocrisy is incredible.
That NY Assembly district #9 straddles Nassau and Suffolk counties. Nassau voted for the criminal. Suffolk voted for Trump. I’m guessing the criminals got out the vote.
Just think for a minute how hard John McCain is working to give the Democrats the Congress so that Trumps agenda can be stopped we are dealing with evil evil people and trump exposed them for all the world to see the Congress is going to turn deep blue. We have a media that doesn’t let the people know the Democrats have become communist.
By blocking everything Trump and his voters are trying to do and being openly hostile to Trump, their fear of losing power will become a reality. The GOP needs new leaders that do not hate their voters.
Ponder this. Trump won in deep blue States. Congress is failing to implement Trumps agenda. It is legislators who just lost their seats as a result. But the Republicans will interpret this as a loss caused by trump and go further left. you do the math.
Same upstate. As the truism goes: All politics is local. Will the anti-Common Core folks who voted for the anti-CC Democrat then turn around and vote for a national candidate who sucks up to the Teachers' Unions?
The second special election in NH was a GOP HOLD not a gain, despite the confusing headline about “winning back” the seat. It was previously held by Republican Andre Martel, who died in late December. Boy what a long vacancy, silly, shouldn’t take so long.
Anyway, while hardly a disaster these loses in NH and NY are certainly something to feel very bad about, strongly Republican seats, it shouldn’t have mattered that democrats had high turnout and how much they spent, where where the Republicans? Yeah the NH seats are so tiny they aren’t good samples and that one was close, but the margin in NY was embarrassing, 57% D in a Trump 60% district.
If these were more marginal districts I’d be more “meh” and again it’s not a catastrophe but there is no spinning that it’s totally uncool and raises the alert level.
The Repubs work harder to back stab Trump than they ever did to oppose Obama.
So where is the surprise?
As a life long Repub, the Repub leadership and most of the followers make me sick these last 8+ years.
Useless eaters, most of them.
Exactly. Trump’s team needs to combat it. I’d say the GOP does too, but they are doing what they do best - rolling over.
Bingo!
I don’t understand the upset. These are NE state assembly seats. Considering all of the seats that the dems have lost in the last eight years, why the stress?
AND......
The report is from Never Trumper, Guy Benson.
Well, some people were stupid enough to vote for Obama not once, but TWICE.
I don’t believe one can ever fix that level of stupidity. Certainly can’t with the MSM, Maxine Waters, Chuck Schumer, etc.
State legislature.
The problem is that so many of “Trump’s people” depend on the very programs that will get the biggest cuts.
Yes, I thought that was a gain of a Dem seat in NH. That’s what I get for not double-checking the prior incumbent. In any event, these races are so parochial that unless we have someone on the ground in the district to tell us the story, we can only speculate why Republicans failed to turn out in sufficient numbers.
I do believe the Dems may be putting inordinate amounts of resources to try to win back anything, and that can account for their success. I would bet you a yummy glazed doughnut that the seat in NY saw the Dems and their allies way outspend the Republican.
I’m reminded of the situation here in Tennessee in 2002 when we had the open Governorship. By all accounts, the Republican nominee (Van Hilleary) should’ve won, but because he was badly short on cash (thanks to the outgoing Republican Governor running a rich RINO in the primary), it gave the billionaire Democrat ex-Mayor of Nashville (who had been trounced in 1994) an opportunity to just simply buy the race in key areas of the state, enough to give him a narrow victory. Had Hilleary been on equal footing or even just 75c to Bredesen’s $1, Bredesen would’ve lost again.
State races in Blue states. Wow. Impressive.
All due respect Dave W, this means nothing at all. There hasn’t been a sea change. If anything Trump’s international trip will curry him great favor.
The Democrats have lost a number of national level races in the last few months. They haven’t won one.
Let them holler and hoot. This means they’ve won between 10 to 20% of the recent races with these in-state races, and every one they lost was a national one.
I read Soros gave millions to Democrat candidates to influence election. Philadelphia for one.
It’s a hell of a lot easier—and more comfortable—to post on Free Republic than actually get of yer duff and do something.
Agree with you.
We need to form a PAC for FReeper activists.
We all need to become Kristinn Taylor!
