Well...
Laura Ingraham today said it wasn’t much good either...evidently foes not help Little Sisters of the Poor and other similar organizations ....don’t know details
I was not able to locate all the text of the order but this sounds okay to me:
First, it instructs the Internal Revenue Service to not take any adverse action against any individual, house of worship, or other religious organization that endorse or oppose candidates from the pulpit, which is currently outlawed by a provision typically referred to as the Johnson Amendment. We are giving churches their voices back, Trump said during a ceremony in the Rose Garden. Second, it instructs the Departments of Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services to consider amending regulations in the Affordable Care Act that require most employers to cover contraception in employee insurance plans. A number of religious non-profit organizations have been litigating their objections to this requirement.
The vagueness of it makes it insultingly useless...
Never forget the time a gal told me that. Most embarrassing night of my life :)
The second provision is a sop to the Little Sisters of the Poor (there for the photo op) and to Hobby Lobby fans, but in reality, both situations have been satisfactorily resolved by federal courts. Meanwhile, Christian business people are losing their livelihood for standing up to the gay-everything crowd, and this order does nothing NADA to protect their rights. Why not? Because Jared and Ivanka are gay-marriage fans.
NeverTrump Review hates it so it must be good.
This is Bill Kristol and the never Trumpers candidate who said he was going to run for president but did not.
I believe NOTHING from this Never Trumper
The order is a nice sentiment, nothing more. Almost worse than none at all, because it evokes well-founded taunts from the left, who knows how useless such language is.
An article from David French, a never-Trumper who briefly flirted with an independent bid against Trump last year? Moving on.
It is the Johnson Amendment which instigated all of the assaults on religion. Without that, religious institutions could defend themselves in the political arena. Right now, they can’t.
This Executive Order is a very good way to enter religious liberty and the Johnson Amendment back into the political and social narrative. It’s a first step and it has people talking about it. . .i.e., it worked.
He summarized it pretty accurately.
How can you not see this as good for GOP. 40 percent of the people who could vote are evangelicals. Roman Catholics who go to church and Orthodox Jews fall into the conservative voting block. Letting these people discuss political positions and candidates is a big setback for the Dems who have raised money in Black Churches for decades without fear of the tax man.
The size of the voting block the GOP will now have energized is staggering.
This is a very big deal
LOL
This order simply restores the right of free speech and assembly to churches. Even though it is a repeal of a law by fiat, the law it repealed is in fact a vile violation of the Constitution. This order simply restores the Liberty that LBJ took away. In that sense it is entirely consistent with the President’s sworn obligation to defend the Constitution and enforce the law -— the Constitution being the Supreme Law.
so how does this enhanced focus on freedom of religion square up with islamist trying to establish shari law in the USA?
And why do I care what David French, aka Egg McMuffin supporter, thinks?
“National Review > Worse than useless!”
Yes, we have an adequate supply of toilet tissue available.
“This is a very big deal”
Yes it is, and for the very reasons you state in your post.
From the douchenozzle who ran against Trump for a week.
