Fresh on the heels of a budget deal that fully funds Planned Parenthood, Donald Trump has signed a religious-liberty executive order that if reports are correct is constitutionally dubious, dangerously misleading, and ultimately harmful to the very cause that it purports to protect. In fact, he should tear it up, not start over, and do the actual real statutory and regulatory work that truly protects religious liberty.

Websters:
National Review > Worse than useless!
Won’t read NR articles anymore since they positively HATED Trump during the election.
Not saying they are fake news.
They just lost me as a customer.
Bad link.
hey Mr. French...Planned Parenthood is defunded for a year...
Whatever you think of French and National Review, this is a pretty good assessment of what could have been an important executive order. I see people calling it a good start. In reality, it’s a poor substitute.
No, it isn’t.
Any executive order that appears to “grant” a Liberty that we are already constitutionally hold - is dangerous.
The way to defend religious liberty is to nullify that which attempts to remove it.
The necessity is to repeal the Johnson Amendment; this is a political statement that will lead, if Trump keeps his word and enough GOPers in the Congress realize the power of the base, to the repeal of that amendment.
I suppose this Never Trump jackass believes putting Gorsuch on the Supreme Court was useless, too. What a whiner.
These are people who don’t like him because they don’t like his bona fides. Didn’t get their blessing.
Do I like him for everything? Nope. I do not. Hes not as conserviatve as I am. But would I take him any day so far over McConnell, Ryan, Graham or McCain? Damn right.
Article isn’t there. More fake news.
You’re right it’s not really a defund.
They supposedly lose Medicaid money unless they stop abortions...
somebody lied to me again ? I’m shocked...
Yep
the order is just as notable for what it omits as for what it reportedly includes. While the Johnson Amendment is important, its threat to religious freedom pales in comparison to the comprehensive assault on religious organizations on federally funded campuses, the threats to the religious freedom of Christian educational institutions, and the attack on the rights of conscience of dissenters from the new orthodoxies on marriage, the family, and even the definition of male and female. What will the administration do to protect religious freedom when the entire cultural Left mobilizes against it? We still dont know.
The vagueness of it makes it insultingly useless.
Hmm. Try this one

Just what we need. Mosques being more political.
It’s not just that. The PP “defund” is not part of the religious liberty order, much less the budget—which apparently boosts its funding. It’s in the health-care bill, which is unlikely to make it into law—and certainly not, after Senate action, with any PP defund in it. This is all smoke and mirrors.
