Secretary of State Rex Tillerson issued a stern warning to Russia on Tuesday: Either stand with the US and other like-minded nations against Syria or side with President Bashar al-Assad and his allies Iran and the militant group Hezbollah. We want to relieve the suffering of the Syrian people. Russia can be a part of that future and play an important role, Tillerson told top diplomats during a meeting in Italy. Or Russia can maintain its alliance with this group, which we believe is not going to serve Russias interests longer-term.
His comments came hours before he was scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow and days after the US launched a cruise missile strike against a Syrian air base after Assad attacked his citizens with chemical weapons, killing 87 people.
Tillerson, who met with like-minded countries on the sidelines of the G-7 meetings of industrialized nations, said Russia failed to live up to its agreement to rid Syria of chemical weapons either through incompetence or negligence, but the distinction doesnt much matter to the dead.
We cannot let this happen again, he said.

This is like Ryancare.
Preserves the essentials of Obamunist policy with slight presentation differences.
I don’t think very many of us voted for leftovers.
We seem to be getting Romney’s healthcare plan and John MCains foreign policy
Still on the train?
Stephen Cohen just stated on CNN that there is no evidence implicating Assad. I don’t fear Assad. I do fear ISIS. This has been stated here several times - anything that weakens Assad, makes ISIS stronger.

For the moment. But not enjoying the ride at this point.
The Syrian people are probably going to be happy to meet that shop owner from Coventry England who styles himself as “ The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights’ as their new national spokesman

Israel is against Assad, and therefore on side of the true monsters.
Of all of Trump’s cabinet selections thus far, Tillerson is the only one that made me feel uneasy. Guess I can stop hoping that I was reading the guy wrong.
And the reign of ISIS is about to begin.
Its easy to say you’re against Assad. I’m against Assad.
The question is, who do you replace him with, who is capable of keeping this steam kettle under control? And if he is willing to do what it takes to keep this mess under control, are you going to be happy with the result? And if he can’t control it, can you live with the chaos and genocide that results?
And whether or not you can, what about the people that get slaughtered either way?
It’s 1916 in America all over again
Half a million people died so we, the Turks, and Qataris, could replace Assad.
If we are successful, instead of Hezbollah and the Syrian Army pointing missiles at Israel, we’ll have Al Qaeda and ISIS pointing missiles at Israel.
Was that worth destroying Syria and killing half a million people?
“Tillerson is talking like this a good thing?”
It’s a stepping stone.
Our politicians and MSM have been screaming about Russians interfering in our elections - though they said relatively little regarding the Pope, yet what have been doing? In country after country our meddling has made things worse.
I feel sick about the fate of Christians in Syria. I can't imagine being a Christian father and looking at my little girl and realize that I am helpless to save her a fate the neocons don't give a sh*t about. But hey, it'll help out the geostrategic interests of Israel and the Saudis so the lives of Christians and others be damned. Extremism in the cause of harming Iran is no vice, and upholding International Law when its helps Iran is no virtue.
Really? This is the guy who helped Hisbullah defeat the people of Lebanon. He is a butcher just like his father. I don’t happen to believe he used chemical weapons THIS time, but he used them before and he is an ally of Iran and an enemy of Israel.
That said, there is nobody to take over that country who would not be a disaster for the world. There are no good guys in Syria
I wish I knew that was true. But if Assad's replacement is Muslim Brotherhood, or ISIS, or Al Nusra, I'm not sure how that improves anything.
The guy who can sit atop this steaming pile and keep it under control isn't going to be your typical Vermont county commissioner. And if he can't, you get Somalia.
Shouldnt have been drinking my diet coke when I read that...almost laughed out my drink
When do the clintons get prosecuted for April 19, 1993?
Oh ya, I forgot, it is ok for democrats to gas US citizens and visitors, young and old alike, but no one else.
Wait..what???????
Now they are saying Assad was framed????
Of course, I lean that way given Mccain’s involvement.
US policy is to break up the alliances between Russia/Syria, Russia/Iran, and finally Russia/China.
First step: Russia/Syria. Message to Russia: we really would prefer not to have a military solution. It will be much easier for you if you “negotiate” (i.e., accept the US solution by inducing Assad to step down, agreeing to break up Syria into sectarian areas, etc.). But if you choose not to “cooperate,” then things will get very painful for you, i.e., Russian soldiers coming home in body bags, terrorist attacks inside Russia committed by disgruntled Chechens, Dagestanis, Khirgistanis, etc. (with covert support from the CIA, etc.).
So it would be in your strategic interest to cooperate.
