Passengers ‘shaky and so disgusted’ as United forces screaming doctor off a plane

“No, this is wrong,” a woman shouts at security officers in the video.”Oh my God, look at what you did to him!”

A disturbing video was uploaded to Facebook by Audra Bridges Sunday night. It shows a full United flight sitting at a Chicago airport and bound for Louisville. But there was a problem – United had overbooked the flight, they needed four seats for their stand-by crew and no one was volunteering to give up their spot.

That problem led to a violent confrontation as security forced one passenger off the plane, who said he was a doctor and couldn’t take a later flight because he had patients to see at his hospital in the morning.

Bridges, a Louisville resident, told the Courier-Journal that United announced in the terminal Sunday night that the flight was overbooked and offered passengers $400 and a night at a hotel to give up their seat and opt for a flight at 3 p.m. on Monday. No one volunteered, and passengers boarded the flight. United told the full flight that they couldn’t take off without the four seats, then upped the offer to $800 plus a night at a hotel, but still no one volunteered.

To me, this story smacks of “we don’t have the full story here.” Nothing said about who this person was or if he was really a doctor. I’d imagine a full-fledged ‘doctor’ of medicine wouldn’t scream like a little bitch..

This story smells like a week old fish, and the woman whose voice is heard seems to me more like some heavy Democrat sympathizer who clearly exaggerated the impact - that man wasn’t injured. He was ‘peacefully’ building a lawsuit.

Overbooking - that should not even be legal. Period!

United should have taken their “standby” crew to Louisville on another flight, or rented a Cessna for them or something.

Wow. What did they do to his face? And, dragging him down the isle? This was not your average ejection.

I would have accepted the title to the airplane.

No less.

This is what happens when companies treat lower level managers like trained monkeys. If corporate isn’t going to trust the frontline managers to deal with this sorta ruckus, they might want to consider creating a department staffed with people they DO trust to deal with it. People who are only a phone call away. Folks who can think outside the box, authorize whatever, and protect the brand.

Oh, I’m pretty sure employees can’t ride if the flight is overbooked and they have to get a paying customer on. That wouldn’t make sense.

I get that overbooking is a tool to make up for last minute cancellations and that if they didn’t overbook, flights would be more expensive. I also get that airlines are not hugely profitable so they have to do things like overbook. I also get that once they overbook, someone is going to have to take another flight whether they like it or not. So in that sense, once they had all the people on the plane, someone was going to be taken off one way or another. The incredibly stupid thing that the airline did was allow extra people on the plane. That was a huge mistake and they should get a lot of bad PR for that.

Well done, United! You’ve made your competitors very happy! Way to trash a brand!

United breaks guitars.

Regardless whether of not he was a doctor, he was a paying customer dragged off a flight by police against his will.

United will pay much more than $800 for that decision.

Its a voucher they offer and not cash. It has limitations too. They make you call in to United to schedule your flight and apply the voucher to the premium rate. So you cannot go online and pick a flight at a lesser rate and apply the voucher there. As for United they truly suck.
