BREAKING: Senate votes 52-48 to repeal rule allowing filibusters against Supreme Court nominees, clearing the way for Gorsuch confirmation

So we held serve.
Let’s see what happens when it comes time to replace a liberal on the Court.
It’s one thing not to trust GOP leadership. Heck — I don’t trust them, either. But going out on a limb and predicting that they’d cave in any given situation is never a good idea.
They still need to be followed and watched on every single issue. Liberals are evil, and so are Rinos, but liberals ALWAYS take EVERY advantage, while Rinos usually give in to democrats, on everything they possibly can. The little dance they play when they’re in power, has gone out of style, and they better keep their eyes on the ball, because we’re watching them, and I think, AT LAST, they’re starting to sweat, because conservatives are fed up with business as usual from them.
Nope, this is a Senate rule change, not a bill that goes to the president. The Constitution gives each chamber of Congress total authority over their own rules. The phony filibuster that gave rise to the rule requiring essentially 60 votes for anything in the Senate is gradually being dismantled by both parties.
Good. By the way, not a RULE, it was a customary procedure of Senatorial Courtesy.
Extending a courtesy to pigs like Schumer is an exercise in stupidity.
McConnell handled this well from start to finish imho
McConnell realized he had been backed into a corner. If he did not do this the Dems were surely going to the next time they had the majority, and he would surely go down in history as the Senate’s Biggest Fool.
After Harry Reid ditched the other filibusters he probably crapped his pants for a couple of days before coming to realize he had no option.
I'm glad that for once the Republicans actually showed some spine. We know that the Democrats would have done it in a similar situation.
I've been hearing that it's Clarence Thomas who wants to retire. This would allow Trump to appoint a young conservative replacement without a huge firefight. When one of the libs goes, there will be rioting over whoever replaces them.
Hahahah, exactly! I don’t see why they don’t just pass the laws that they think would help the country and run on THAT instead of running on promises
For liberals, Gorsuch is even worse than a “solid conservative vote on social issues” in some ways. He has openly stated that aggrieved malcontents have no business using the Federal courts to push an agenda that they can’t successfully pursue in a legislative process. There is an “I don’t give a sh!t” objective ruthlessness there that scares Democrats more than a partisan conservative would.
It could come back to bite us someday, but the chance to capture the Court from the Left is well worth taking.
Flame suit on. This is short term thinking. What happens if a Dem becomes president?
I don’t know what the alternative is for now however.
The dems ALWAYS get their supreme court justices anyway.
Now we will get ours, too.
ok, we can agree on that! :^)
Anyway, I wasn’t one of the ones making any negative predictions, I was merely nervous, ha ha.
Looks like McConnell & co. are moving ahead on Gorsuch. Schumer was so stupid to stake the filibuster on this nom. rather than on a future one. Now the path is cleared for Trump to nominate anyone who can have Republican support in the Senate, Democraps be damned!
There are times when getting rid of the old is uniquely satisfying. Next step, the same option for repealing failed social programs such as Obamacare.
Exactly right. Couldn’t agree more.
This and many other reasons why I don’t go anti-Trump at the drop of a hat.
I disagree with him on some things. I’ll voice that too.
Overall, this guy is going to do good things for the nation.
Not yet but McInsane probably is.
Now if only Buzzy would knock off. And one of the two fatties would stroke out or have a fatal accident...
They're going to do it anyway, no matter what the Republicans do.
