NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Outrage has grown at Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, as the school faces layoffs and increased class sizes due to a law limiting funds for schools with a higher white student body.
The Los Angeles Unified School District provides more funding for schools where the white population is below 30 percent.
In a letter to parents, the district noted the highly regarded middle school had been above the percentage for the past couple years.
The racial formula was a condition imposed by court decisions dealing with desegregation in the 1970s.
Parents, however, remain frustrated with what the cuts might mean for their children.

So if your school has too many white students, it gets financially penalized. Well, gee, that makes PERFECT sense. Yep. S-u-r-e.
I know NOHO well. There’s not a lot of private academies/charter schools in the area and it’s within area of the major studios Universal, Warner etc so those rich white liberal parents who work for the studios have no place to stick their kids in hence, this issue.
In North Hollywood, one imagines these parents would be fine with this if it impacted anyone other than themselves.

So this school in majority/minority LA, has too many white students??? They are to be penalized for having too many white students???
I’m not familiar with LA schools. Do they do busing there, or free transfers to boost minority enrollment???
But then, if lots of white kids live in North Hollywood and go to school there, why must there be a penalty???

This is so ridiculous. My son briefly attended a school that was 95% Hispanic. It had a one star rating on Great Schools. If that school is getting a ton more money, it isn’t working. It was horrible. School garden was just dry dirt. There was no excellence in any subject or teaching or anything. It was k-5 babysitting in spanish.
Better to get less district money and have the parents care about the school.
This fits right up there with the End of Days Prophecies. There are many “Nations” within modern-day Amerika. The word for nation used in the original Greek is actually a term to mean “Ethnic Group”.

Did you see Judge Janine Saturday and Sunday nights? She had mayors and principals on the panel. A principal said that in her MA school, there are SIXTY different languages spoken by the students — and the school MUST accommodate them. The non-English kids occupy more of the teachers’ time, so the American kids get short shrift.
Of course it makes perfect sense. It’s an anti-racism measure.
