Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware predicted Monday that Republicans will almost certainly have to resort to the nuclear option to approve the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Coons, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which held four days of hearings on the Gorsuch nomination, doesnt envision Democrats crossing party lines to vote in favor of President Trumps nominee. He will get an up or down vote. Sen. Schumer, our minority leader, has said it is going to be a 60-vote margin, and I doubt he is going to get 60 votes. The question then, Joe, becomes: What do we? Mr. Coons told host Joe Scarborough on MSNBCs Morning Joe. Mr. Coons said lingering divisions between the two parties have poisoned the debate over Judge Gorsuch. He said Democrats are mad that Senate Republicans refused to hold hearings on Judge Merrick Garland, then-President Barack Obamas pick to fill the vacancy left by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia.

Time to go nuclear and confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch under the rules specified in the Constitution which only require a simple Senate majority.
I’m not really a basketball fan, but I understand why a team doesn’t go full court press on every single play.
The dems are making a mistake here. They need to choose their battles.
I’m really curious if Trump is going to cave on Gorsuch. I hope not.
GOP Senators better not fail America on this.
Break out the Castle Bravos.
Exactly. The Constitution requires a simple majority. Nothing nuclear about following that.
Dingy Harry opened Pandora’s box, and he was warned by his own side that he was doing so. He didn’t care.
Makes it that much easier when Ginsberg kicks off.
Trump already told McConnell a few weeks ago to go nuclear if he has to.
If they can’t get Gorsuch confirmed, we might as well kiss the country goodbye. This one should be a slam dunk.
Dems are being very dumb here. If they force Rs to go nuclear this time, when the next one opens up they have nothing stopping it which would definitely tilt the court significantly more right.
McTurtle better not go wobbly on this.
Excellent news, thanks!

Yeah...it should be.
The rationale here is that Gorsuch doesn't change the balance of the Supreme Court even in the unlikely scenario that he was so conservative he made Scalia look like a homosexual Marxist. If the Republicans use the nuclear option to confirm him, the Democrats will lose the filibuster weapon for the NEXT confirmation process -- which might be much more important in terms of the balance of the court.
Where is McTurtle? He is MIA
Using the nuclear option simply makes for majority rule. Which party is always preaching diversity is important? Why play into their hands? We must play by our rules from now on and make them like it or lump it.
Some have said that would be the topic of a secret deal between Trump/GOP and Dems - Ie) Dems will give them Gorsuch, but all will agree to leave filibuster intact for Ginsberg replacement
Then confirm Gorsuch. Then pass real health care reform.
The Senate no longer has enough loyalty to the country to operate with a 60 vote rule.
