On his way out the door, Obama also rewrote the line of succession in cases where the AG recuses himself. (I didn't know there was such a previously-planned chain of succession.)
He specifically wrote one senior guy out of the succession, and re-routed the succession to go right to his friendlies.
Amid Thursday;s over-hyped brouhaha about Jeff Sessions meeting with the Russian ambassador, a curious detail emerged. In Sessions's recusal memo, it was explained who at the Justice Department would be handling any investigations into the Trump campaign's alleged ties to Russia. "Consistent with the succession order for the Department of Justice, Acting Deputy Attorney General and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Dana Boente shall act as and perform the functions of the Attorney General with respect to any matters from which I have recused myself to the extent they exist," reads Sessions's official statement on the matter.
Except that if the Obama administration had its way, Dana Boente wasn't supposed be the U.S. attorney to handle these matters in the event that Sessions recused himself. On February 10, USA Today reported the following:
Seven days before he left office, President Obama changed the order of succession without explanation to remove Boente from the list. Obama's order had listed U.S. attorneys in the District of Columbia, the Northern District of Illinois and the Central District of California.
That seems like awfully suspicious behavior. In fact the USA Today story noted this is pegged to the news that Trump quietly signed an executive order restoring Boente to the line of succession. The Obama administration chicanery was likely brought to White House's attention after Obama holdover and acting Attorney General Sally Yates tried to usurp the powers of the president and countermand his immigration executive order, actions for which she was summarily fired.
Why would the Obama administration make this eleventh-hour change to the line of succession at the Justice Department?
Fire...Them...All.
And launch painful, expensive investigations and prosecutions. Right now, Trump basically has a staff of paid assassins cooking his meals for him.
fire all Obama holdovers now. gone by the weekend. lock their desks impound their computers and search their homes for evidence of law-breaking
he needs to fire them all for colluding with the past administration.
No one will care what they say if they are alinsky-ed as traitors, liars and cheats. As people who want to stop good effective government and instead protect the elites who hate the citerzenry.
We all knew it was bad, but this is way over the top. It's way past time to fire Obama's thugs and replace them with known loyalists.
I think treason is punished by death
Issa and other Republicans also wanted a special prosecutor. Why?
I still don’t understand why Trump administration cannot just cast aside these evil directives...Just do new ones!
“Yup ... thats why they are declaring all out war...Im thinking Jeff Sessions knows where all the dead bodies are and who put them there.”
Maybe so, but it seems they’re planning to wait until 2024 before doing anything about it.
(Yes, I know. I sound frustrated. And where’s that executive order that we were supposed to get three weeks ago, by the way? >:-/).
Another question is whether the traitorous Republicans in the US Senate are complicit for stalling the elected government or useful idiots...or both.
Run a FReeper poll. I bet the answer is YES!
Most of the time, when you think there's a conspiracy, it's not; it's a combination of coincidence and incompetence. But, when there IS a conspiracy, it's much, much worse than you could have ever imagined.
Law of Conspiracy #2:
It's the little details that are telling.
--As in this apparently otherwise re-routing of the command succession several levels down in the Justice Department. If you were plotting to set up Sessions, and also planning to hold up all appointments by slow-rolling in Congress, this is EXACTLY what you would do.
Fire and Replace all of them.
Anything homo wrote re: line succession via executive order, President Trump can toss out and rewrite. The CIC needs to fix this right now!
Thank you for posting that!!! I never would have known about this bit of double dealing otherwise. Talk about Game of Thrones type stuff. The Trump team definitely knows how to play ball. We’re in for an interesting 4 (8) years.
I’m wondering if POTUS can kickstart a national referendum on term limits. That would drain some swamp.
Until and WHEN Trump reels in ALL Soetoro or/and Clinton “left-overs” (Throwing them in the food garbage disposal”) IMMEDIATELY draining/cleaning the Swamp there will be NO peacefully ways to governing as “We the Deplorable in the basket” elected him to, pure and simple. Has to take the Bull by the horns at any cost for our sane survivals’ “Poker” games will NOT work here !!!
NO it’s NOT. Has always been open wider and wider last 50+ years !!!
“I am beginning to think that Trump appointed the wrong man to be Attorney General.”
Sessions was the first lawmaker to support Trump when all of the others were pulling out the long knives. Everything Sessions is doing right now is being directed by Trump and Steve Bannon. The last thing we need to do now is turn on our own faithful and start throwing good competent people off the bridge. Close the ranks and fight on.
Seems people forgotten how Slick Willy unopposed fired plethora of AGs. For HIM a smart move and here we still have not yet started “Drain the Swamp” with all that high powered cabinet chosen, hmmm !!!
“Slick Willy unopposed fired plethora of AGs”
I remember that...it was the US Attorney ... I think he fired 93 of them!
