JACKSON, Miss. -- A woman who identified herself as a DREAMer was arrested after speaking at an immigration press conference in Jackson, Mississippi, CBS affiliate WJTV reports.
The arrest came amid a string of immigration raids and a lack of clarity about the scope of the Trump administrations plans for deportations.
Daniela Vargas was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to attorneys Ramiro Orozco and Abby Peterson and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
At the press conference, members of the metro areas Latino community spoke about recent U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids and President Trumps first speech to a joint session of Congress. Abby Peterson, an attorney for Vargas, said that Vargas spoke about her life story.
Daniela Vargas speaks about the recent immigration raid that picked up more than 50 allegedly undocumented immigrants including her father and brother during a news conference Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Jackson, Miss., city hall.
CBS affiliate WJTV reports that she discussed recent events involving her family. Her brother and father were arrested on February 15 after ICE agents came to their home, according to the station.
So the whole family will be reunited back home in Argentina. Sounds like a happy ending to me.
She’s been here since she was 7 for God’s sake! Cut her a break! She had no choice in the matter and our government condoned it at the time.
I’m sure she speaks perfect American English without any accent. Why should she be deported to a country that is most likely foreign to her?
Let her stay if she chooses, I say, but let’s not allow any new illegals in. Let’s be reasonable, I say.
How dumb is that?
Knowing Trump could come into office, and knowing she just had to file some papers before Nov. 11 to extend stay for 2 years (could file at end of Obama Admin.); she punts!
Now it’s our fault?
Too dumb to stay!
If she was brought here at 7, chances are she knows the language.
She’ll be fine.
She wasn’t up there advocating for the mililtary’s benefits.
She wants as many to stay as possible.
I dont care if she was 7 DAYS old when she came.
winning is great, these folks thinks they can live in the USA like Mexico and no one cares..in the past..true..now with our beloved cheeto covered potus..foorget aboot it..it is yuge..
circle LA, chicago with troops and go through block to block and get them out..
oops argentina..not mexico..lol
It’s an invasion, pure and simple. Even native-born American young people aren’t being taught to be good citizens. There is no room for any foreigner, legal or illegal, who is hostile to traditional American values in the way that we have to tolerate anti-Americanism from our native-born.
At this point, let's focus on keeping out new illegals. I think that will solve most of the immigration problems we face.
Argentinians are really nice people, at least the ones I've met. Overdoing the deportation thing is just going to cast the new reforms in a bad light.
Even Mr. Trump has said that he has a heart.
That is one ugly guy.
She is here on an overstayed Visa (expired), stayed here illegally for years, THEN applied for DACA status (likely not telling about the overstayed visa). Probably three illegal acts right there.
Now, we cut her a break because she probably ‘speaks American English?’ She was using that American English to speak out against our laws, subvert our border system and to sow discontent and foment trouble for an administration that is trying to protect us from all sorts of illegals.
Yeah, I’ll cut her a break. We won’t charge her for the plane ride home, then. Otherwise, it isn’t up to me or any other American to accept others’ feelings contrary to law because it feels right.
Looks like ICE is trying to keep the family together ...
;'}
Throw her the hell out.
I have no sympathy for her. She broke our laws and encouraging others to do the same.
You say something?
If it weren't for the 1st Amendment, I doubt we would even be on a forum to discuss this issue.
It isn’t 1st Amendment - that issue is just a smokescreen. ANY criminal speaking out in public at an announced press conference would get swept up. She got her say, then she got detained.
looks like she thinks she is a man.
Defiantly wants the attention.
