SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) The state of California is studying ways to suspend financial transfers to Washington after the Trump administration threatened to withhold federal money from sanctuary cities, KPIX 5 has learned.
California could very well become an organized non-payer, said Willie Brown, Jr, a former speaker of the state Assembly in an interview recorded Friday for KPIX 5s Sunday morning news.
They could recommend non-compliance with the federal tax code.

No the same punishment the United States meted out to the Confederacy.
Thanks for the intelligence brief on California. From what you say, it’s worse than the rest of the country can imagine.
In fact, Trump is doing the American patriots of CA a favor — something politically impossible were it up to the State alone — already past the point of no return.
The left is looking for a President Trump overreaction.
Sending in troops or Federal Marshals is EXACTLY what they want. Then they can claim Trump is a fascist Hitler.
The response should be more nuanced.
Right now, Trump is cutting of Federal money to sanctuary cities, only. California threatens a tax revolt. In response to a tax revolt, the counterattack should be multipronged:
Those should bring California to their senses.
No regard for the rule of law or your fellow Americans. You just wanna shoot somebody. Right?
WOW! That didn’t take long to flip sides! :-)
Yup! We need to re-run the CA gold rush, starting from the Nevada border.
Nah ....just have him keep ordering FLEA’s & LEO’s to ENFORCE THE LAWS ALREADY ON THE BOOKS.
The rest will take care of itself IMHO.
That’s about the size of it.
California’s leaders have gone rogue.
This is preposterous and they damn well know it.
Try holding funds back from the IRS. I double dog dare anyone.
As for the government intending to withhold other funds from the federal government per-sesession, good luck with that.
The feds will swoop in like hawks on a field mouse.
No, I don’t wish ill on anyone
But if a state stops sending taxes to Washington then they are in open rebellion and the historical response by any government to open rebellion has been to put down the rebellion by any means needed including force.
What California is talking about doing in the article for this thread is secession. They can’t do that. We fought a war over that question the side that advocated being able to leave the Union lost. States do not get to decide which Federal laws they enforce and to pay or withhold Federal taxes. If they did there wouldn’t really be a nation.
Would these same people have agreed to let Texas or Wyoming cease to pay Federal taxes if The PIAPS had won the election? I don’t think they would.
I’m just saying that the people of California need to put a stop to this stuff before they find they’ve made a decision that can’t be undone. If the legislator in California stop paying Federal taxes the Federal government will replace those who legislate - by force if necessary.
According to the payroll tax bill we received for FUTA (whatever that is), California already isn’t paying it’s money to the Feds. We got a shockingly high bill for the FUTA tax last week and the explanation was that California hadn’t remitted the funds to the Feds, even though California collected the FUTA funds from us.
Brown should be arrested, California made into a territory and Mitt Romney made Governor-General of the Territory until it could be reorganized and re-admitted into the union as the fifth State.
Make California 4 territories; separating San Fran and LA from the rest of california.
:)
Just stop traffic on the Golden Gate...that would end the rebellion.
They never seem to think ahead to the consequences of their action. This gave us the nuclear option in the Senate and the abuse of Executive Orders by 0vomit. The Dems expected to be in power forever and planned to use these in their favor. Now that the Republicans are able to use them, they aren’t so enthusiastic.
Hoist by their own petard.
The Schadenfreude is delicious.
Please spare Nor Cal.. it’s beautiful conservative country. I am a Southerner also.
My point exactly. If the mayor of a town robs a bank, you don't punish the citizens. You arrest the mayor.
Wow! Now that is the best idea regarding California I have ever heard! Turnabout is fair play after all. Now, the hard part. Where to start? LA? San Fran? Choices, choices... So long as it all burns guess I can be happy with that.
An old buddy of mine owns a number of rental houses.
He often had trouble collecting the rent money from the Section 8 tenants, so he started keeping the water utility account in his own name.
Rent late? Off goes the water.
I wonder how many toilets are flushed every day in Los Angeles? It wouldn’t take long to get the message across.
