Seems to me there should be extra punishment at any sentencing just for having the audacity to put this argument before the court. It would seem to indicate an almost sociopathic lack of remorse.

That’s a tall order.

Why did you bold a hypothetical?
To: servo1969
Actually, it doesn’t surprise me that a government worker doesn’t know that lying is wrong. To them, its just another part of the job.

If Obama’s LAWYERs can lie to court without punishment, why can’t a lowly county social worker. /sarc

What about “I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth” is unclear?

The attorney should be sanctioned for being so stupid as to bring such arguments before the court. Truly incredible. Now, that being said, there are infinitely stupid rats who do believe this. I know. I’ve seen ‘em!

It’s beyond disgusting that it ever happened, beyond disgusting that anyone is still defending it, and beyond disgusting that this has dragged on for so many years at such vast expense.
That Orange County gubmint needs a total house-cleaning, top to bottom. And the main perps should go to prison.

But the attorney trying to claim that there is no constitution provision that “Thou shalt not bear false witness ...”
Somehow to this lawyer ... Oh wait. It depends on what the meaning of “is” is, right?

Oh, I'm sure they knew it was wrong but in their minds, sometimes the furtherance of the greater good requires a few rules to be bent.
Six and one half years were taken away from a mother and her young daughters by these lying, sociopathic bureaucrats. There is no way to repay that. No way to make this mother and her daughters whole in a court of law. This demands blood.

Isn’t the correct word for lying on the stand “perjury”?

If I were the lawyer in this case, I would agree to stipulate that the social workers
really didn't / couldn't know that lying in court is wrong - and then go ahead and prosecute them anyway, citing the legal principle that
"Ignorance of the law is no excuse."Regards,
