The company I work for is self insured and our costs are up 70% this year for the 2500 or so employees on the plan and their families. We’d have to raise premiums by nearly double to get it back to the 2015 rate at this point for the 2017 plan year, which we won’t do. Even backing out the larger claims it’s still way up. Never seen anything like it before. Will have reduced our eps by 4 cents per share roughly this year

The real problem as I see it now, now that they have failed to repeal it, isn’t about what will replace it, its that the prices will never come back down in a deflationary cycle.

I heard that crazy libertarian guy talking about a plan that was catastrophic coverage only, then you buy the extras.... Problem I see with that idea is emergency rooms will still be overwhelmed with people who only bought catastrophic and end up going there with a splinter in their finger! I just shake my head and basically we’re all heading to the poor house with crap programs and overpriced insurance.
Lastly, we need to change the language. It isn’t healthcare, healthcare is what you get from your doctor. IT IS HEALTH INSURANCE and it costs more than your doctor.

The North Texas men are not gangsters or suspects in a murder conspiracy. Instead, John Paul Cooper and Richard Cesario are accused of running a white-collar fraud: scamming the military’s health insurance program.
Health care fraud has become big business in North Texas, experts say. In this case, millions of dollars that could have gone toward health care for members of the military and their families was wasted due to greed, authorities said.
Cooper, 47, of Southlake, and Cesario, 49, of Plano are accused in federal court of using threats and intimidation to run a $100 million fraud scheme in which they got the military to pay for expensive and unneeded compound medications for soldiers. They split the proceeds with the pharmacies and doctors, according to an updated indictment unsealed Friday.
