Millions of American teens are at risk of starving, and some are trading sex for food

Millions of American teenagers are at risk of running out of food or don't have access to affordable, healthy food.

Some of them are so desperate, they're selling their bodies and committing crimes to go to jail to ensure regular meals, according to an Urban Institute study.

Breaking down the numbers

The study found at least 6.8 million people were "food insecure," meaning they didn't have reliable access to affordable, healthy food. Another 4 million were in "marginally food secure" households, where the "threat of running out of food is real."

All of the 10 communities surveyed in focus groups mentioned teens using sex to pay for meals. Eight of the 10 mentioned criminal acts, ranging from shoplifting to drug dealing, to pay for food. And widespread scrutiny around surrounding hunger often prevented teens from opening up.

Apart from maybe some people living in the back woods of Appalachia, absolutely no one is starving in America, period. If you live in or near a city, you can get free food at a homeless shelter or soup kitchen. No one is trading sex for food, period. This propaganda masquerading as a “study” is laughable.

These teens (assuming they go to school) are presumably getting 2 or 3 free meals a day at school, then food to take home on weekends, free summer meals, and their parents (??) are getting another $200 or more per month in EBT funds to feed them. The taxpayers are paying for all of it. What else should we be doing?

They’ve been trading sex for drugs for decades. Why not food then?

Maybe if they were smuggled captives of the sex trade, but then they wouldn’t be answering surveys.

And most would not be Americans.

If it can help out muslim “refugees”, they should surely rescue hungry American teenagers. What an idiotic question.

They can’t get food stamps?

https://mises.org/blog/thanks-bush-and-obama-1-7-americans-were-food-stamps-2015

I guess their parents are using the EBT cards at the casinos instead of feeding them.

The Head of the Urban Research Center is (drum roll):

He served from 2005 to 2010[1] as the president of the University of North Carolina system. In 1997–98 he served as White House Chief of Staff and he also ran unsuccessfully for the United States Senate from North Carolina in 2002 and 2004.

In 2010 Bowles served as the Democratic co-chair of President Barack Obama’s National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform with Alan K. Simpson.[2] Bowles and Simpson co-lead a business group, The Campaign to Fix the Debt.

People in the back woods of Appalachia know how to capture wild animals, process them, and eat. If they don’t, there are plenty of folks to teach them in that locality.

Scratch them off your list.

What a bunch of BS. One story talks about how obese kids are and the next about kids starving as if they are straight out of a Dickens novel. I bet the kids who don’t have food are the ones who parent(s) are using all the money to fuel some addiction.
