BUSHNELL (FOX 13) - A Sumter County man says he is unfairly being charged with violating the state's alligator poaching law after he tried to protect his livestock.
Reginald Blanton of Bushnell said an alligator was in the field with his horses on the night of June 21. His son, Jack Hildreth, tried to scare it away, but that didn't work. So Blanton fired a shot at it, trying to get it to leave.
But the state attorney in Sumter County said Blanton went too far.

Damn close. One thing folks who don’t or have never lived in FL, if there’s water, there could be gators. They were a nuisance out at the space center.

Sounds like the prosecutor has some bigger agenda when it comes to this particular defendant.

Alligators shouldn’t be protected any longer. They are plentiful and no longer threatened.

Citizens really need to demand their legislators to legalize flogging for state attorneys who waste taxpayers’ money on such frivolous prosecution.

Bushnell is NOT Tampa. Not really near Tampa. That would be like calling Austin, Dallas.

Even after reading the entire article, it is not clear WHICH state is being referred to. Typical, sloppy journalism. Apparently, I gather from exploring the “local news” website, this happened in Florida. Maybe that should be Flori-duh.

Yes, but when you are in the hospital with a broken neck and alligator bites all over your leg, it’s bound to pique the curiosity of a few people as to exactly what transpired...people DO have a tendency to be rather nosy...;)

Where he messed up was admitting to the shooting before the son was attacked. Always claim the attack was first and the shooting was a last resort.
