The Republican Partys Platform Committee adopted a draft document Tuesday that not only recognizes the unborn childs fundamental right to life, but also calls for defunding Planned Parenthood and states that the GOP will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage.
The draft platform still has to be adopted by the full GOP Convention, which will be held in Cleveland next week.
The Platform Committee, which was chaired by Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) who has a 100 percent pro-life voting record, according to the National Right to Life Committee and dominated by social conservatives, adopted language to defund Planned Parenthood.

Good.
I surely hope this is more than just pontificating. Republicans have controlled the ‘purse strings’ of funding Planned ‘body parts’ business since 2011... and they have yet to end this business.
There should be one major platform. NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW!
Excellent!
They put all kinds of good stuff in the platform, it doesn’t mean anything to what is actually done.
As horrific as I think the whole abortion process is, I don’t think anyone in government is going to change anything, regardless of their official statements.
And let’s say by some miracle abortions are made illegal and the clinics shut down.
It would create a massive black market doctor underworld doing back ally abortions left and right. With the amount of abortions that happen daily in the US, it would be like creating a whole new illegal drug industry...only thing they’re pedaling abortions.
Society as a whole places more value in women’s choice, than it does in life.
All true, but the first problem is that the government should not be funding this with taxpayer dollars.
How about defunding N.P.R.and their liberal bias i am forced to pay for too?
They (still?) call(ed) for the de-funding and abolition of the DofEd...40yrs ago. Still there, growing, festering and being b!tched about by the same GOP(e).
Weren’t We the People promised this for voting ‘em into Congress the LAST 2x times? Something bout the O’Care, illegal amnesty and PP.
Swore I heard *something* like that /s
I honestly don't know why they bother with a platform. How about something like calling on the HOR to not fund anything that's not supported by the Constitutional functions of the federal government? How about something about Judicial overreach? There have been attempts, federal programs and state, to defund Planned Parenthood that have been overturned by judges.
We lose because one of two things happen. Either there are backroom deals where just enough 'pubs vote with the dark side or anything we win with gets overturned.
A platform with determination to deal with those two problems? That would mean something. The message would be that "our" pols should be held accountable to actually solve problems, instead of treating them as campaign issues to humor the voting fodder.
WHOO HOO!
You’re right about that. :(
It would be great. PP would have to subsist on donations and blood money.
