Donald Trump announced he would meet with Sen. Joni Ernst on Monday, one of several recent names dropped on his Twitter feed that are fueling speculation over his highly-anticipated vice presidential selection. "I look forward to meeting @joniernst today in New Jersey. She has done a great job as Senator of Iowa!" Trump tweeted early Monday.
Ernst's name appeared in reports on VP shortlists over the weekend, and a senior Trump adviser confirmed to CNN that Ernst is being considered.
Trump also doled out some conspicuous praise for Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, who have also been floated as potential running mates.
Trump tweeted his approval of Cotton's performance in an interview on Meet the Press on Sunday: "Senator Tom Cotton was great on Meet the Press yesterday. Despite a totally one-sided interview by Chuck Todd, the end result was solid!" Trump wrote.

As he moves forward on his campaign, Trump is using rope-a-dope tactics to disarm the left. I expect The Donald to interview Bruce Jenner soon, and wouldn’t blame him for doing so. ;-)
Agree completely, if that's all that's on offer. Cotton is good; the others...meh.
Chris Christie’s best position is as Attorney General, but only after every US Attorney now on staff with the DOJ has been fired.
Bill Clinton sort of set the precedent back in 1993, when 93 US Attorneys were dismissed. The media were totally unimpressed with such a move, until George W. Bush also attempted to fire most of the US Attorney staff in 2006, then they saw that as a reason to get all huffed and puffed up about the “blatant” disregard for “rule of law”.
There are hundreds, if not thousands of practicing attorneys out there that have a REAL respect for Constitutional law, and not just looking for loopholes, as many of the current crop does. Surely in this pool, there are sufficient number to repopulate the Department of Justice with those whose purpose is to UPHOLD the law, not to torture it into some grotesque parody of itself, lacking in all spirit of which the law was originally constructed.
Then, following that, start in on the ranks of Federal judges and Supreme Court justices, making the appointments not for life, as is now the case, but limiting EVERY ONE of them to a term of no more than ten years, at which time they may be re-appointed, or step down.
Trump/Pirro 2016!
Joni: 1) not ready
2) Puts the seat at risk down the road. WE ALL worked too hard for that seat after a lifetime of Harkin.
Jeff Sessions is the man.
Marsha would wow people in every way.
Oh definitely, Marsha Blackburn is great.....however Joni’s commercial yrs ago about CASTRATION was TRUMP-like! She hasn’t carried thru though.
I realize this a VP thread, but I’d sure like to see John (the ‘stache) Bolton as Secretary of State!
I really liked the WAC nurses.
Ernst has no shot. She was one of the RINOs that voted to allow women to be drafted.
Senator Sessions was born December 1946. They'd both be 70 years old at inauguration. Besides that, how does Trump EVER clean up the US Senate without Sessions in it?
Keep in mind that Trump doesn't just have to fill in the VP slot, he has to put people who've been loyal and enthusiastic about his campaign in places where they'll do the most good. That's why we have to trust that Trump is looking at the total picture and will make an impressive, well thought out choice.
Nobody needs the New Jersey scumbag, and anything on the other side of Governor Lard Ass’s scale will be tipped over.
Iowa is leaning Republican. Trump needs EVs. This most likely gets him 6 EVs that was going to go to Clinton. He’s going to need every single EV he can get which is why he was up in Bangor trying to get the one EV in the Second CD of Maine.
Any of the above would be acceptable. I prefer about a half dozen people not on the list: SARAH, Dave Brat, Rand Paul, Brett Sessions, Paul LePage, and Jan Brewer. But any of the people mentioned would be fine.
Maybe Newt as chief of staff and Joni as VP
From NY Times
One person briefed on the process, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said that the campaign began vetting Ms. Ernst in recent days as a possible vice-presidential pick.
Jason Miller, Mr. Trumps communications director, declined to comment. A spokesman for Ms. Ernst could not be reached.
Ms. Ernst is a retired National Guard lieutenant colonel and a veteran of the Iraq war. Her military background could help Mr. Trump given his lack of foreign policy experience or national security experience. The fact that she is a woman could also help Mr. Trump with a group of voters with whom he currently polls poorly.
“Just my impression from reading Free Republic, I get the impression that nobody who has been mentioned as a VP candidate is good enough.
Or to look at another way, everybody who has been mentioned, people here cite shortcomings of that person, and that said person should be disqualified.
Just an observation. I will get behind whoever Trump picks. I hope others do the same.”
I agree. Everyone has their pluses and minuses. Whomever Trump picks I will stand behind him.
Is Trey Gowdy available?
“Shes not that conservative. I wish hed search using the ACUs website first to look for the Congresscritters who have a 100% record of voting to uphold the Constitution.”
That ship has sailed. Both Cruz and Lee who were high up on the conservative ratings are no longer welcomed. That high 90’s number is now down to low 90’s. In that sense, Ernst might be too conservative.
Excellent. I did not know that.
