Gun Control Wall, Bolstered by Republicans, Shows a Crack
New York TImes ^ | June 29 2016 | Carl Hulse

Posted on 06/29/2016 7:10:00 AM PDT by ZULU

Eight Senate Republicans joined with 44 Democrats on a Republican-proposed compromise that would deny people on two different federal watch lists the ability to buy weapons unless they could successfully appeal that decision. Several other Republican senators showed some willingness to accept new restrictions on gun purchases if they could be structured in an acceptable way. A bipartisan companion measure also was introduced in the House.

Absolutely. She didn’t ‘out’ him, the judge did, doing Obama’s bidding. But she didn’t come to his defense either. And he is the father of her children.

Anyone who doesn’t think this is Trojan-horse legislation need not look any farther than California where the list of Democrat issues that prevent gun possession continues to grow. There was an attempt a couple years ago to add DUI convictions to the list. It failed, but it will be back, they never quit. And as long as we are told we have to support Republicans with a 20%-30% conservative rating, “because it is the best we can do.” There is no firewall to prevent the erosion of our rights once they start making lists.

“Creating secret government lists to deny civil rights is a mistake.”

It’s a nightmare. A serious, wake up screaming, nightmare.

Hitler had a list
Stalin had a list
Mao had a list

Any kind of a “list” gives me a chill.

I noticed that Linda Graham didn't have a response box on his FaceBook page, so here is my response to him:

From the NY Times today:

"Republicans find it much easier to explain enacting gun restrictions to constituents devoted to the Second Amendment if they can frame their position as an act against terrorism.

“The Constitution’s a sacred document, but it is not a suicide pact,” said Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina and a gun owner. “This is not hard for me. Due process is important, but at the end of the day, we are at war.”

Due process isn't just "important", it is "extremely important". And, because "...we are at war." doesn't mean that we give up our rights. We are not satisfied with hollow assurances that a "no-fly" list or a "terrorist watch" list will not affect us adversely or prevent another terrorist attack as we saw in Orlando and San Bernardino. Remember, that at the end of the day you represent us. You are not our rulers, governors, or baby sitters.

It is very obvious that the gun control laws currently being pushed now in the Congress would not have prevented either Orlando or San Bernardino. And the laws also didn't prevent the Boston Marathon bombing. Yes we are at war, but don't for a moment think that we will sacrifice our rights, especially considering that once they are gone we won't be getting them back.

I, for one, will not open the door that will allow the constant picking away at our rights as enumerated in the Bill of Rights. Each and every one of you in the Congress took an oath to uphold the Constitution. If you can't do so then go home and let someone who can have that position.

Yep. If Trump loses this one, we will be in for a bumpy ride. This shit has to be stopped. It’s here now.

I am perplexed as to why “We” in its various forms; states, cities, local governments and individuals, just don’t say NO!

Why not continue as usual when the laws and mandates are unconstitutional?

We have one firewall left, why give that up so easily?

I seem to recall some quaint little history tidbit about a “shot heard around the world” when a repressive government tried to confiscate that days’ assault weapons and powder stores from the people.

Not to be subversive or anything, heavens no! American history should be re-written to remove such dangerous thought.

I have no problem with people on a no fly list or watch list being restricted from buying a gun; as long as a person gets due process to get ON the list! Note I did not say due process to get off the list!

Any senator who voted to let the emperor decide who is “allowed” to keep their firearms and who “isnt” — is a traitor to his/ her oath of office and the American people. And must be removed from public office ASAP. Note that there is zero limit or control or even due process or appeal allowed in who the emperor puts on that list - and its s secret list, too. And there’s no limit how many Americans can be put on that list. They could just put the entire nra and goa membership lists on that secret list — for starters. This proposal is the Gun grabbers’ wet dream

It should not be the burden of the citizen to have to prove to the federal government that they are worthy of exercising their right to own/purchase a firearm. If the government puts one a list of no fly - no buy, the government needs to first prove it through the court system by presenting EVIDENCE before any American citizen is blocked or put on some nefarious government list. The citizen should be able to defend themselves against government overreach and at the government’s expense.

The "acceptable way" is that in order to get on the list you are charged with a felony crime, tried, convicted and sentenced.

Then you get on the list and cannot buy a gun.

There are closer to 45 of them in the senate but those up for re-election are given dispensation to vote with the “rubes aka people” to keep their seats. But at any one time Schumer and McConnell can field 8-10 liberal Republican votes as needed.

A Senate Majority leader with testicles, a brain, guts and a backbone COULD handle them. You call in, say, Susan Collins, and tell her her new committee appointment is on a Committee to study the economic impact of the sex life of Arizona Scorpions. Put the renegades on the crap committees. He CAN do this.
