More than two dozen House Democrats staged a "sit-in" on the House floor Wednesday in protest of GOP leadership's refusal to allow a vote on a gun control measure following the Orlando massacre.
Led by Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), the civil rights icon, and more than 40 Democrats walked into the chamber just before noon and pledged to occupy the House floor until GOP leadership allowed a vote.
Democrats have tried numerous times over the past week to force a vote on a so-called "no fly, no buy" bill, which would bar terror suspects on the no-fly" list from purchasing guns.
We have been too quiet for too long, Lewis said. There comes a time when you have to say something. You have to make a little noise. You have to move your feet. This is the time.
"How many more mothers? How many more fathers need to shed tears of grief before we do something?" Lewis continued, his voice rising in intensity. "Give us a vote. Let us vote. We came here to do our job. We came here to work.

Protection for ME, but NOT for thee.
No words can describe how I feel about these disgusting oligarchs.
Sit-ins are so 60’s.
John Lewis is looking more like a Bullfrog on a lily pad, every day. His specialty is bluster, feigned outrage and obfuscation.
Just turn off Internet for those engaged in the sit-in, and their staff. It ought to be easily do-able.
Thanks, what a bunch of ignorant SOB’s whose collective IQ wouldn’t break 80.
Excellent strategy. Let them be uncomfortable. The nation is safer when nothing is going on in the House and Senate.
Sgt at arms, shoot them for sedition!
And that is the shame of it all. Damn pansy Ryan, if he had any integrity at all, he’d take a page out of Walker’s book and let the idiots sit there and show the world what childish morons they truly are.
I guess pouting is the way to go for a Dem - banging my head against the wall, I’m disgusted with them but probably more angry at Ryan et al. This is going to hopefully wake up the few remaining brain dead voters who still don’t see the reality that these freaks are all in this game together.
Orlando was no ‘accident’.
Really? They've been bitching about guns forever.
When we were living in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, there WAS a Saudi "guard" at our front gate. He was sitting aloft on a high, wide pillar, "guarding" the gate.
He was obviously bored outta his gourd as he had one boot off his foot and he was PICKING HIS FEET with his bayonet.
Haha. You KNOW I could NOT have made that up.
The KSA hires armies to protect their petroleum and natural gas fields. In the early 1980's they used Rae Dik Dae Lim, South Korean military and petroleum workers, to protect their fields.
I noticed that they were all young, mid-twenties and VERY fit, though VERY short.
They got into a baseball game with other men, Filippinos...and that was HILARIOUS as the Korean soldiers didn't have a clue as to what the game really was. But they had fun. They laughed, fell on the ground, hooted and hollered. It was probably good for them to do that.
“ENOUGH”/s
Hey dems.....islamic soldier killed 49 people. Pyles..
A sit-in. How creative. Maybe they need a snack and a nap?
“Just turn off Internet for those engaged in the sit-in, and their staff. It ought to be easily do-able.”
Or firewall everything out except for FR. Win win.
Gun control begins at home.
Now go there, Rep. Lewis, and take care of it........................
What do they think this is, a college administration building in the 1960s?
Needless to say, I wrote him back a WONDERFUL letter. Since then I have had TWO calls from Washington. I let voice mail answer it. No message was left for me. :o)
Jon Lewis was a companion of MLK.
He’s trying to recoup his early civil rights era mantle, and feel useful again.
Sit-ins were a common tactic in the 60’s....................
