Newt Gingrich says he’d probably say yes if asked to run as Donald Trump’s veep

With the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees all but decided, attention turned Sunday to the possible contenders for vice president.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said he and his wife, Calista, “could be lured into a new path” if presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump were to ask him to join the ticket.

“If he can convince Calista and me that it’s doable and it’s serious and that we would in fact contribute, I think we’d be very hard pressed not to say yes,” Mr. Gingrich said on “Fox News Sunday.”

**Trump should pick someone who knows the workings of government.**

Which Newt does know.

She’s going to pick Sanders....it’s the only thing that makes sense. The Dems have no one....

It's going to be Dr Ben Carson, all the rest are going to be the so called potential VP’s to keep things interesting until the announcement.

VP might be too demanding of Newt’s energy.

But he’d be very useful to Trump in some fashion.

Newt's POV.....He's a workaholic. He's written some great historical books.

And he's not out for the lime light.

Think you have him all wrong.

Someone usually sits in for the VP in the Senate except for a needed vote.

VP has no set bounds.

Chief of Staff is most likely....but VP is fine, too.

You have what I said all wrong. My point was that he would be out of the limelight as Chief of Staff and it is a lot of drudge work not the kind of work that would make good use of his talents.

Of course Newt would accept. Then he would consider himself President and bloviate to his heart’s content.

I loved the part where he pretended to care what his wife thought. That doesn’t square with newts treatment of his various wives.

If something happened to Trump and “Mumbles” Carson became president, it would be the equivalent of sending in a cheerleader to replace the downed quarterback.

Agreed. The VP's job is (a) to be able to step in should the unthinkable happen, and (b) bring something to the table for the general election. Newt would be a superb choice for Chief of Staff but would bring little to administration as VP, and less on the ticket.

Trump needs a younger, and lower-profile sidekick as his running mate, and someone the DC establishment would definitely not want to see in the Oval Office (the "health insurance" angle).

He used to always mention his wife Mary Ann when he was married to her. Presumably also when he was cheating on her with Calista. I like a lot of what Newt has to say but at the same time he creeps me out.

Trump should ask the Hot congress women from Hawaii. Shes a democrat, but she is also an Army reserve. And she is pretty conservative for a democrat. And did I mention, she is hot. And she surfs.

Yes? No? Maybe so.

I’ve got mixed feelings about Newt as Trump’s VP.

I think I’d rather see him as Chief of Staff.

“Newt would be OK. I prefer Chief of Staff though.”

Sure, Newte would fit the bill just fine. (sarc)

“Sarah Palin, whom Ben Carson has told the Washington Post is on Trump’s short list”

As much as I love Sarah, please no. Too many cross-over Dems would stop dead in their tracks if she were his running mate. It’s no fault of hers that she’s politically radioactive, but radioactive she is.

I pray that Sarah will turn him down if he asks.

Let her serve President Trump in some other capacity for four to eight years, then the American people will be ready to elect her as president.

Now that would be a hoot! It would be glorious!
I still enjoy the debate Cheney had with, jeez I can’t even remember who it was! I just remember it was stunning in it’s simplicity.
