HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) Two state lawmakers have introduced legislation that would require Pennsylvanias high school students to have a basic understanding of American history and civics before graduating.
House Bill 1858 would require that students pass a test on 100 basic facts from the United States Citizenship Civics Test, the test all immigrants must pass when applying for U.S. citizenship.

Couldn’t have said it better myself, glad to see this happening. The pinheads in college these days mostly can’t identify 90% of the people in our government by pictures.
To heck with the “students”. They’re too busy being programmed by the DNC. VOTERS should be required to know American history and civics.
bill requires PA residents to breathe
What a unique idea
When I went through the public school system in California the big step required for moving on from 8th grade to high school was passing the Constitution test. It's been a long time but I recall it being akin to a 12 year old's bar exam. I was talked about all year.
It’s been a long, long time, but I remember two requirements for high school graduation - American history followed by civics.
A novel concept.
Forget it!..... that would be like education or something..... /sarc
Never happen.
Our current governor would veto it if it passes.
Back in 1961 we had to take PA history in eighth grade.Kingston High School,Kingston, Pennsylvania
I LOVE IT. Back to basics.
I believe Arizona already does this.
Not only will this incentivize students to learn about our history, it will also increase the value of a high school degree from Pennsylvania. The only “people” who lose out with this bill are the liberals, who desperately need to keep our youth ignorant if their decrepit ideology is to survive.
“Pa. bill would require students to know American history, civics”
Whose version?
And if not, the teachers would simply not comply.
And if the teachers complied the children would still pay no attention and they'd be promoted anyway.
Most people, I'm sorry to say, do not realize how abysmally ignorant today's students are. There are honors students and valedictorians who can't tell you the names of PA's senators, or the dates of the Civil War, or who was POTUS during WW2. I know numerous people (including two elementary school teachers and a lady with a master's degree in English) who have no idea who Lee Harvey Oswald was, or what year Kennedy died.
The civics test is at least a step in the right direction.
However
If the test is based on the one referenced below, then it may be a weak test imo.

High school students should be held accountable for knowing Congresss constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers. They should also be aware of the clarification by state sovereignty-respecting justices that Congress is prohibited from appropriating taxes in the name of state power issues, essentially any issue that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
