Bill Kristol Names Romney, Rubio, Tom Cotton As Third-Party Prospects If Trump Wins Nomination
Brietbart ^ | 25 Apr 2016 | Patrick Howley

Bill Kristol, son of Irving, names Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 79% , Mitt Romney, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) 79% , and others on his hypothetical shortlist of third-party candidates that he could run if Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee.

The “Weekly Standard” editor and self-styled neoconservative power broker is back to talking about a third party, declaring that a Trump victory in Indiana would force him to re-focus on his so-called “Latter-Day Republicans” independent ticket. A third party could help to split the vote on the Right and elect Hillary Clinton president, which would allow Kristol to stave off the Trump threat and regain control of the party in 2020 without actually having to formally support Clinton.

But Kristol now has a shortlist of predictable options, including Mitt Romney and neoconservative rising star Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas.

why bother with a third party

They may already conclude that Hillary needs some major 3rd party runner to take votes away from the Republican to get her elected. Shades of 1992 and 1996.

There is a likelihood that many Sanders supporters may vote Trump over Hillary. That could be devastating for HIllary. There is also a thread this morning that Hillary isn't even appealing to the women voters.

Bill Kristol will oppose any candidate who is NOT in favor of continual armed global intervention. If our sons ain't dying, Bill Kristol ain't happy.

The neoconservatives won't back any candidate who opposes open borders immigration and "nation building" wars.

When we don't want to allow people from Third World countries into the US and Europe by the millions, we're just a bunch of xenophobic racists. When neoconservatives want to bomb the people of Third World countries, they're not racist, they're humanitarian.

Actually, John Anderson was the reason that Reagan won every New England state except Rhode Island. The region is full of libtards who just can't admit they voted for a Republican. But they couldn't stomach a doofus like Jimmy Carter either, so John Anderson provided the perfect outlet.

It didn't hurt that Reagan was smart enough to see this and insisted that Anderson be included on the first debate. How many of us Freepers remember that Jimmy Carter boycotted that debate and was represented by an empty chair? Reagan, having shown himself to be principled and fair minded by including the person who was supposed to take votes from him, proceeded to eat Carter's lunch in the next two debates and never looked back.

Bill Kristol: Jim Mattis happens to be a social liberal. He's more liberal than I am. He's very concerned about the debt. He's a strong national security hawk. Why wouldn't someone like him?

Jorge P.

They will likely run him for TX governor next. That, then, will give him a launching pad for a presidential run.

Bill Kristol knows how to pick losers. Let’s not forget that he was one of the first to float Sarah Palin’s name as VP for McCain which turned out to be a disaster for ‘08. Romney - All ready lost...twice. Rubio - All ready lost. Cotton - No one other than conservatives knows anything about him. All will lose general.

It is hard to believe, but more and more evidence shows many Republicans are on Hillary’s stealth team.

Tech billionaires (major Dem donors, Hillary supporters) plot with GOP leaders at exclusive island resort to stop Trump

Bill Kristol, as pointed out in another thread on this, is not a Conservative--never has been. He is a proponent of all the things that Donald Trump has denounced as stupid. He has never repudiated his father's avowed neo-Trotskyism. His 3rd Party will draw as many votes from the Democrats, as from Trump.

See The Neocon Phenomenon.

Let us ignore this flake and concentrate on how we can help Trump win the Conservative State of Indiana!!

What has gotten into this guy? Yes I’ve had concerns about Trump also, and I’ve posted them on here and no secret of mine, but it’s done now. He’s our front-runner. If they spent half of this energy that they’re spending now going after Trump on Obama instead back in 2008, they would have won.

Well, it can no longer be denied that Kristol is working to get Hillary elected.

He should just be booted from the GOP once and for all.

I agree, boot him, the Erick Erickson Red State crowd, and the National Review folks out. They are harmful to the country.

Romney would be dumb enough to run third party, but I think Rubio would run into sore loser laws and I’m sure Cotton is too savvy to get drafted into a third party run. So I think Krystol is grasping at straws.

I agree wholeheartedly. Isn't it amazing that a guy like Trump, who I support, can manage to draw out of the woodwork, all of the slimy, slithery, back-stabbing, RINO GOP establishment elite and their water-carriers in the media and various rat holes they dwell in, to expose themselves to the ridicule of the country and still think they have the voters bamboozled into thinking one of "their" guys, like the previous losers Rubio and Romney, should win, not Trump.

I mean really? REALLY? Do they think we are that stupid or that we won't notice the unethical machinations they're planning behind the scenes that could cancel out the will of the Republican primary voters? They are all arrogant bastards, like Bill Kristol, who thinks his sh*t don't stink but everybody else's does.

Romney would be patted on the back by Hillary and Rubio..I don’t think he is THAT stupid.

I think Romney is the most likely. He has no political future anyway. He would probably win Utah, and perhaps influence a couple other western states.

Mitt Romney could hardly bring himself to say one word against Obama in 2012, but he's all full of fight now with the NeverTrump movement.

It goes to show that the GOP establishment sees a grassroots insurgency on "their" own side as a much bigger threat than having a Democrat in office. They can live with another Democratic President, because it gives them the chance to play at fake opposition as they've been doing for the past 7+ years with Obama. Not holding onto the White House isn't a problem, having a candidate who they haven't vetted and approved do so is intolerable.
