Ted Cruz called California "the big enchilada” on Wednesday and said it would be the state that ultimately decides the Republican nomination. But a new poll from Capitol Weekly/Sextant Strategies shows Donald Trump in a dominant position across the state.

The results, provided to POLITICO, show Trump leading statewide with 41 percent of the vote and Cruz trailing far behind with 23 percent. John Kasich is in third with 21 percent, and 15 percent of Republicans said they remain undecided.

California is worth 172 delegates when it votes on June 7 — with the winner of each of the state’s 53 congressional districts receiving three delegates. The statewide winner receives 13 delegates.

The Capitol Weekly/Sextant Strategies poll shows Trump winning in almost every corner of the state, from San Diego and Orange County to northern California and the Bay Area, though some regions have small sample sizes. Cruz performs strongest in the Central Valley, as he has in previous surveys, though he still trails Trump there by 7 percentage points, 35 percent to 28 percent. Trump leads in the liberal Bay Area, but it is Kasich who nudges above Cruz into second place, trailing Trump 39 percent to 25 percent.

Trump’s strongest region is the Inland Empire of southern California, where he hits 49 percent support. Trump scores best among older voters, winning those 55 and over with 43 percent, and weaker among younger voters.

McCain won by 7 in 2008 and swept all the delegates. Ted is toast. The Cruzlims can whine and cry all they want about Trump’s comments today, but they change nothing. Ted is done. Good riddance.

The last paragraph at the link:

"The poll also surveys 466 Republicans who have registered so far in 2016. Trump does even better with that group, winning 53 percent of their support, to 21 percent for Cruz and 15 percent for Kasich."

Trump NEEDS California! GOP Voters need to jump on the Trump Bandwagon and support him. We need him for a lot of reasons but most of all to Fix the border, but up tariffs on foreign goods (that will bring back jobs) and re-build the Army and Navy. We must all support him by our volunteer efforts—The Left has had too much sway in the Golden West and they have wrecked things.

Californians agree with Trump in favor of abortions, men in women’s bathrooms and higher taxes, so it makes sense.

Is California an open or closed primary?

The Republican primary in California is closed to registered Republicans only, which is good because with HRC's nomination wrapped up there would be a lot of anti-Trump mischief like happened in Ohio.

#PoachersBeware #NoPoachin’Ted

The best thing about the California primary election is the delegate allocation process. Delegate poachers will have a much harder time in Cali since the candidate selects their own ‘loyal’ delegates after the election. Ain’t that grand!

“The selection of Presidential Nominating Convention Delegates to the Republican National Convention ... shall be chosen by the Presidential candidate who obtained the plurality of Republican votes within each Congressional district, and, for ... at large ... by the Presidential candidate who obtained the plurality of Republican votes statewide. [Standing Rules and Bylaws of the California Republican Party As Amended 20 September 2015 Article VI Section 6.01 (A)]”

Cali rules will prevent Fidelito & friends from pre-poaching delegates to his side. Since the delegates are not publicly allocated and chosen until after June 7th, they will not be available to Cruz or anyone else. Between June 7th - July 18 Convo, I would suggest that Trump quarantine the delegates at Catalina Island or Mar-a-Lago -Someplace real nice. (joke)

So in 08 California Republicans voted for an amnesty shill in McCain in super numbers and now you going to vote for a democrat in Trump because he is going to build a wall. Ok Right. Brilliant, Bravo, Well done. I love the way you square a circular argument. You know he is going to lose the general right? Tell me you have a brain!!

It’s 3rd world in many places. Los Angeles Downtown is absolutely 3rd world. Most of the San Fernando valley, which is part of Los Angeles and has 2 million residents is very much Mexico. I don’t see America in those places.

Small town California is ,I’m sure , quite nice. But any small town in America is good, just about.

I live here. I work here. I will not retire here. I’m going back to my small town. Either the one in Ohio, or Michigan.

I believe it's closed but that didn't heard the Donald in NY, FL or AZ. Just so long as it isn't some stupid caucus which discourages voter turnout.

That's not fair. Trump's abortion stance is the same as George W. Bush's! I didn't agree with Bush's stance but I (and most Freepers, I believe) still voted for him. I fully intend to vote for Trump as well (I already did in the primary). As for the bathroom thing, I don't agree with Trump on that but I don't think it's nearly as big an issue as some are making of it.

Ted Cruz has rapidly degenerated, over the course of the primaries, into the Tracy Flick of modern presidential politics.

Agreed. There is a small but vocal minority of zealots who view everything in religious and social terms. Trump’s stance on abortion is what a great many Republicans believe and would soften the Party’s image without actually doing anything. Roe v Wade has been law since 1973 and it’s still around. Some people need to get perspective. The Cruz Crowd is all up in arms over transgender bathrooms and changes to the Party platform which at the end of the day will result in no changes to anything in the real world.
