Trump: Transgenders Should 'Use the Bathroom That They Feel Is Appropriate'

Republican Donald Trump says he'd be fine with Caitlyn Jenner using the bathroom of her choice at Trump Tower. (AP File Photo)

(CNSNews.com) - Republican Donald Trump, appearing on Thursday's "Today" show, said transgenders should be allowed to "use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate."

"So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and want to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?" host Matt Lauer asked Trump.

"That is correct," Trump said.

Asked for his view on the North Carolina bathroom controversy, Trump said the state has "paid a big price" for requiring transgenders to use the restroom that corresponds with their biological sex.

"Leave it the way it is," he said.

"One of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday, saying 'Leave it the way it is right now.' There have been very few problems. Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all of the business that's leaving and all of the strife, and that's on both sides -- you leave it the way it is.

"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife, and the -- the economic punishment that they're taking."

AD FEEDBACK

Trump said he doesn't know if he has any transgender people working for him. "I probably do, I really don't know."

Trump noted that there's a "big move to create new bathrooms" for transgenders.

"First of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country. Leave it the way it is."

I started out supporting Trump as my second choice, and happily so.

However, of all the things coming from his mouth that I’ve overlooked over the months in order to convince myself I could vote for Trump in November .. this might be the last straw. This is a sick and disgusting mindset.

If he actually said this, he’ll be burnt toast by August!

You call it retreat - I could care less about the issue. You have a greater chance of being killed by an illegal alien than seeing a trans person in a public restroom.

If it is so insignificant, why don't we just leave everything as it has always been? Why must we change anything to suit the preference of these teeny tiny minority of mentally ill males?

You could care less about the issue so long as people will let the "Big Anus" mafia get their way. You are putting your hope of a political win above the truth and above what is best for society.

You are advocating a course of action that reminds me of what Franklin said.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I live in NYC - in Manhattan no less - and I have never seen one in a public bathroom.

And as I have mentioned, this is not about bathrooms, and not even about transgenders. This is about forcing "Change" down the public throat. This is about forcing acceptance of what has long been considered by Western Civilization to be a mental illness.

This is Gleichschaltung. Forced conformity to what the elite demand be accepted as the new morality.

You did see what happen to Curt Schiller when he deviated from the enforced script?

Gleichschaltung will tolerate no deviation from party ideology.

Donald gave his opinion... not that he was going to need to change anything.. and his opinion shows who he truly is.

Yeah, until we have a nominee, not going to happen.

We don’t have a nominee, once we do, then we get behind the nominee. Until then, until 1237 delegates are secured, nope, I will not support anyone but the guy I have wanted from the beginning, Ted Cruz.

It is NOT over. This crap with Trump today should illustrate to his supporters where they will be if he does actually get the nomination...

What an ill-informed claim against Ted Cruz.

In no way has Cruz ever advocated federal control over this issue.

Ted Cruz has spoken in support of North Carolina, a state exercising its rights.

Ted Cruz has never said states could not have laws mandating such atrocities as LGBTs are demanding. He knows full well they can. Just like they can legislate for gay marriage and he will not deny that right. He believes such issues are constitutionally left to the states, not the feds.

He has been very clear.

Only question I have, do you not know this or, are you purposefully steering people wrong?

Do you really want him to cover up his TRUE SELF?? DO you want to vote for someone who feels one way and yet cons people into believing he is different???
Think about it.

I gave Romney a chance after 2008 to see if he could have a consistent conversion to conservatism, but he lasted only a few months, so by 2012, I had a host of examples of his violation of his supposed new perspective. He was pro-gay scouts, gay military, gay weddings, etc.

He lost me. When Benghazi happened, I thought to myself, “there’s no way Romney can be worse than this”, so I reluctantly decided to vote for him. That is about the same time he stopped fighting and threw the election to Obama.

I’ve given Trump a chance to prove his conservatism. So far, he’s done OK. But this is a violation of that pledge. No conservative will allow men into little girl restrooms.

I await his retraction or his explanation that he was misunderstood. I’ll give him that courtesy. After all, I gave Romney the same opportunity.

If he doesn’t retract this, he’ll have burned an awful lot of bridges with social conservatives. It’s just a fact.

Xzins, Don’t you see… That’s the whole point. If we can be steered into all the “gotcha questions” so that we’re framing opinions on “anything” we might disagree with… Who you ever agree with? Will you only agree with someone that does Every single thing that you agree with? How many ways can your opinion be spun?

.... Someone, come this November, is going to be elected president of United States… Who do you want that to be? Will you let mainstream media direct your thoughts in this process? Can you name anyone on the face of this earth that you agree with every single thing they believe? Anyone?

I challenge you to put your top three “must-have” on a piece of paper. And then ask yourself who can do these three things for me in the next president’s term... Who will try to get these three things done...? And I surely hope that whether or not an occasional “transgendered” person uses a bathroom is not in your top three....:)

Sexual orientation and gender identity are two separate issues. Bruce Jenner, who identifies as a woman now calling himself Caitlyn, still prefers women sexually. Just because someone is trans doesn’t necessarily make them gay or a lesbian. The person walking into the restroom who is biologically male, yet identifying as female, may still be subject to the same wants and desires of anybody in the next restroom over. Also, perverts have been trying to sneak their way into women’s bathrooms and locker rooms to do heinous things for years. Now they have license to do so.

his NY values strike again- people are just fooling themselves if they don’t think he is steeped in NY’s extreme liberal values- right now he’s saying whatever he ghas to to woo republicans- but we’re seeing his true feelings surface from time to time- even going so far as to say his lesbian sister would ‘make a wonderful supreme court judge’

"I also think that if Ted thought coming down on the homo side of this particular question would help him deny Trump the nomination even more, he’d do it without breaking a sweat."

You certainly don't have a clue about Cruz's positions. He's among the most principled conservatives in this generation. That you think he isn't means that you have simply fallen for the Trump lies.

Yes, everything is now equal despite the oddities.
We have to protest against stuff like this and when companies say they will move from a state for challenging this we should boycott the company and ruin their economy for getting into this.

It is extremely relevant to those who believe in nature’s God.

And I do, yes its sad our country has come to this point, but this will be decided in the courts, just like gay marriage.

He’ll now command full media coverage for the next couple of days going into the more liberal North E.

Watch he’ll clarify and backtrack and explain his comment.
Does he believe it personally who knows, but you’ve not been paying attention to his campaign if you think he didn’t know the media firestorm and attention it would bring. Owning the media again.

We’re still at a place where it’s either Hillary or Trump, that ain’t changing.

We live by the beach in SoCal. I just went for a jog, passing some restrooms along the way. Both city & state (park) beaches use private stalls/rooms & common wash basins.

I happened to use one on the way back, and of course since I was thinking about this topic, I had a crazy notion to go back & take some photographs.

I think I'll refrain, but suffice it so say that: (a) the rooms/stalls are at least 50% bigger than stalls you currently find in regular men/women bathrooms; (b) it's completely enclosed - floor, ceiling & door.

For as long as I can bother to recall, people of both sexes have been going in, using them & departing without any other thoughts on the issue.

In fact, beaches where there are still segregated bathrooms have problems now & then with gays cruising the men's rooms. This issue/problem doesn't exist, and cannot exist, in a common area.

I think someday when all is said & done, people will wonder what/why we had put up with crappy ass stalls, along the attendant potential for criminal activities in close-off bathrooms.
