Trump’s Ace in the Hole
Townhall.com ^ | April 19, 2016 | ED Klein

A lot of very smart political people predict that Donald Trump will arrive at the Republican convention in Cleveland shy of the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination on the first ballot.

Here’s why I don’t think that’s the way it will play out.

To begin with, you’ve got to understand Trump’s mentality—and I believe I understand him better than most people outside his immediate family.

I’ve known Trump for 35 years, met with him on numerous occasions, talked to him on the phone countless times, traveled with him, and written two lengthy magazine cover stories about him.

One cover story appeared in the December 2013 issue of Vanity Fair and was titled “Trump Family Values.”

In that story, I reported that the once nearly bankrupt Trump had figured out a way to make a comeback and become a billionaire.

The second cover story appeared in the August 2012 issue of Newsmax magazine and was titled “The Trump Effect.”

In that story, I explained Trump’s appeal to a vast swath of Americans—“blue-collar and low-level white collar workers who say that they’re tired of hearing the same old political falderal from career politicians.”

What I learned from reporting these stories is that Trump always has an ace in the hole.

In the case of the Republican convention, where he may arrive 50 to 100 votes short of the necessary 1,237, his ace will be the 136 unbound delegates.

Trump has already identified each one of these 136 free-to-vote-for-whomever-they-please delegates and has begun to woo them.

And, let’s not forget, he is the master of the deal.

The Republicans have been in cahoots with the Democrats on this and many other things. They let Obama get in so they could put Rubio up and now they are stuck with Cruz, whom they don’t want. Kasich is probably the one they want. A nice man who will take orders

There are people out there who choose to do manual labor, I know it sounds strange to those who don’t but it is the truth. We started giving those jobs to illegals in the 1970s and still are, and lost more when companies moved out of the country. Along with that in most areas there are no longer vocational classes to learn trades in high school.

Our politicians have been trying to tell us for years that we don’t want or need those jobs. According to them we need to all go to college and work technical jobs. Never mind that they have exported many of those jobs, and exported workers to compete with ours in technology as well.

In the past it was understood that some people did not want to go to college and did not want a job indoors, or a regular 9-5 career. Many people started at the bottom as a manual labor employee and worked to learn a business from the bottom up. More than a few of those employees ended up owning their own business in construction trades, landscape, janitorial, mechanic and or welding shops, etc.

Most entry level jobs now go to illegals taking that bottom rung away from our citizens.

We still have people that would work those type of jobs if they could.

According to Trump supporters...
When Ted Cruz uses the rules to his advantage...he is a lying, cheating, low life, GOPe insider.

When Trump actually admits to breaking laws by “buying” politicians...he is said to have to do it to conduct business.

When Trump uses backruptcy rules and laws to benefit his companies, causing investors to lose money, he is “just using the laws to his advantage”!!!

And, let’s not forget, he is the master of the deal.

He does claim to be the master of the deal but he makes a lot of claims. Supposedly he (or a ghostwriter) wrote a book about the art of the deal but government is not about deal making. Contrary to popular belief, most people can't be bought, bribed, or intimidated and are insulted when it is implied that they can be. Convention delegates are usually grass roots activists who are more interested in a candidate's views than his bank account.

“When Trump actually admits to breaking laws by “buying” politicians.”

Breaking laws? lol. Try again, Cruzer. An open donation to a politician isn’t illegal. It is tantamount to a bribe, which is Trump’s point. Thanks for validating what he is saying.

Here is one NY value that Trump boasts about. He openly says he spreads money around to officials in order to get favorable treatment for his various businesses. Most businessmen who might do it, do it on the sly, and don’t boast about it. But hey, in NYC that is the way the rigged system works—and he knows how to work in a rigged system.

Of course he will try to get their votes in any way he can. This is more important to him than a zoning change. Look for lots of new members to his golf courses, free vacations at his resorts, and maybe a free ride to Cleveland on Trump Air complete with full course meals of Trump Steaks and wine.

Well when Trump says “buying” politicians...
In my definition it means he is giving money to them to change their behavior...which means he is bribing them...correct?

Maybe my view is more black and white than yours...but is that not what Trump has admitted to?

Whereas when Cruz uses the existing rules...Trump and his supporters cry foul!!

Cruz does have some of his records sealed. Perhaps some of his mother’s too.

I guess the point is...if his father obtained Canadian Citizenship...and we know he did, it is more than likely that momma did, too..especially since they both appear on a voter registration list.

She would have automatically renounced her US citizenship since Canada didn't allow dual citizenship at that time.

“Maybe my view is more black and white than yours...but is that not what Trump has admitted to?”

No, it means that you are acting (you hope) stupid.

Trump is using a common figure of speech to describe a legal practice that has the obvious appearance of bribery. And probably often is.

If routine figures of speech are beyond your ken then maybe you need to take a literature class.

Read and weep you ignorant birther

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has won a case in Pennsylvania's highest court that had challenged his eligibility to appear on the state's GOP primary ballot and serve as president.

The state Supreme Court order Thursday upheld a lower-court judge's decision to dismiss the case.

A Pittsburgh resident and registered Republican voter, Carmon Elliott, had argued that Cruz isn't eligible to run for president or to appear on Pennsylvania's April 26 primary ballot because he was born in Canada.

Commonwealth Court Judge Dan Pellegrini ruled March 11 that common law precedent and statutory history maintain that an eligible candidate includes any person born to an American citizen, regardless of where.

Elliott had acknowledged that Cruz's mother was born in the United States and has been a U.S. citizen her whole life.

WASHINGTON — A Pennsylvania judge affirmed Sen. Ted Cruz’s status as a natural born citizen Thursday and dismissed a lawsuit that sought to remove the candidate from the state’s Republican primary ballot, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Carmon Elliott, a Pittsburgh resident, filed suit in Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court to keep Cruz off the state’s April 26 ballot. Elliott claimed natural born citizenship — a constitutional requirement for the presidency — requires being born in the country in question. Cruz, who was born in Canada to an American mother, has argued that his mother’s citizenship made him natural born, regardless of the location of his birth.

Judge Dan Pellegrini wrote that a natural born citizen “includes any person who is a United States citizen from birth,” and ordered the state’s secretary of the commonwealth to keep Cruz’s name on the ballot.Ted Cruz is an American and can appear on N.J. primary ballot, judge says>Ted Cruz is an American and can appear on N.J. primary ballot, judge says

TRENTON — Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is a "natural-born citizen" under the U.S. Constitution and therefore can run in the June 7 New Jersey primary, a state administrative law judge said Tuesday.

"The more persuasive legal analysis is that such a child, born of a citizen-father, citizen-mother, or both, is indeed a 'natural born citizen' within the contemplation of the Constitution," Administrative Law Judge Jeff Masin wrote.

A group of New Jersey residents and a Catholic University of America law professor insisted that Cruz, born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father, did not meet the constitutional requirements to be president.
