We'd been living in our brand new home for 2 weeks when the first of 2 killer quakes hit our city . I'd experienced myriad quakes in various parts of Japan during my 30 years of living here , but nothing like these . I really thought it was the end of the world when that first quake struck : the house rocked and shook that strongly .
I'm still in a bit of a shock so forgive brevity at this time .
My wife and I survived unscathed , but eveything inside the house was destroyed . It'll be a while before we know if there is any structural damage to our house .
We have been staying with a relative in Fukuoka since Saturday evening and feel very fortunate , especially compared to thousands and thousands of others staying in overcrowded school gyms , etc., or living out of their cars .
I plan to write a full report of my experience in the not too distant future .
The resilience and endurance of the Japanese people continues to amaze me .
Thank you for letting us know.
Stay safe.
Oh wow! What an experience to live through! The important thing is you and your wife are OK. My prayers for you and look to hear how you are doing. And I pray for all those whose lives have been affected in these quakes. Stay strong!
I have a detention area available to help you out.
I’m so grateful you and your wife are safe! Prayers for you both as you begin the clean-up, and to all of your neighbors who have been devestated.
Not one of them.
NOT ONE.
God bless you all. I will pray for your safety, and await your report whenever you are able to get to it. Stay well.
....and proud of it. :)
Thanks. God bless you and yours!
God bless you- and stay safe out there.
I used to work with a guy who married a Japanese girl during the Korean War.
One day I was visiting them and he wanted to show me a part which was in his auto transmission but turned out to be just a plug. Anyway, he looked for it for around 15 minutes then asked: Kioki, have you seen that part? She immediately went to a drawer and got it for him.
I always wondered if that was typical of Japanese girls or just Kioki.
I really understand how you feel, buddy. Stout hearts. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help from Tokyo.
My thoughts and prayers will be with you and everyone there.
Please be safe and keep us updated. Please be sure to check in and let us know you are safe.
Hugs.
Thanks for checking in with us. Prayers sent up for everyone.
Thanks for reporting in.
Stay safe.
‘Stuff’ can be replaced.
Thanks for the update. I was concerned for your safety as well as our other Japan based FReepers.
I’m sorry you experienced that and I hope your house turns out to be structurally okay. Stay safe.
Thanks for letting us know you and your wife are safe sushiman... prayers for both of you...
Thank goodness!
