John Kasich bantered with Haredi Orthodox Jews about which biblical figure was most significant and other lessons from the Jewish Bible. [ ]
The story of the people are Abraham and God made a covenant with Abraham not Moses! Kasich told Ezra Friedlander, a Haredi lobbyist who was escorting Kasich through the heavily Haredi neighborhood.
Friedlander had tried to explain that for Jews, Moses is considered the most important biblical figure, and more important than the patriarchs, because he brought the law to the Jews.
Moses is up there, Friedlander said, as Kasich, an Anglican who was born Roman Catholic, examined shelves of Jewish texts.

Common misconceptions; go back to the root, Jacob, who was also named Israel. Consider if you really want to contend that the King of the Jews is only the King of one tribe of Israel ... And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers: Unto which promise our twelve tribes, instantly serving God day and night, hope to come. For which hope's sake, king Agrippa, I am accused of the Jews.

Do you understand the context? Jesus was descended from the tribe of Judah due to a promise to David, who was of the tribe of Judah and was the king of the united Israel. As for Israel and Judah, they were divided in the time of Rehoboam, David’s grandson. Jesus reference to the “lost sheep of Israel” does not call the ten tribes Jews.
Same goes for Paul, originally a Pharisee and technically not a Jew, being descended from Benjamin, although regarded as a Jew due to Benjamin and Levi being part of the kingdom of Judah. He is not calling the Lost Ten Tribes Jews in that passage at all.
Jesus put the veil over their hearts for a reason. And that was to save them.
Islam is from Ishmael, the boy born from the concubine who sought to chase away Sarah and then started whining in the desert like muslims do all the time.
So, indeed, Moses and not Abraham represents more accurately the jewish legacy. As a matter of fact, the very message of fleeing slavery to the promise land is a key text forshadowing the work of salvation. Abraham did not go through such language fundamental to Judeo-Christian belief.
I see someone added the keyword “Putz”. Just the word I was thinking of.
Correct. The lost 10 tribes were gone over 700 years before the birth of Christ. Jesus was asked if he was the King of the Jews because that was all that was left.
Pauls reference here is because of prophecies in Jeremiah about the re-unification of all the 12 tribes of Israel at a later date.
I cannot think of a single scripture where he spoke of the Ten Tribes, lost or otherwise. He did speak of twelve tribes ... And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

“... And it came to pass that God created a postman, and blessed that postman and his wife with a son, who they named John. And when John became an adult, the lord came to him and said ‘Go forth, and proclaim to all the lands that you are John, son of a postman’”.
It was friendly and respectful. There is video.
Sure beats a candidate who wouldn’t even know the Torah from the Koran or who would refer to One Corinthians.
Moses didn’t enter the Promised Land, but he received the greater reward. Recall who stood with Jesus at the Transfiguration.
Both Abraham and Moses are heroes of our faith.
I have violated all of them. According to Jesus, so have you and so have we all. Perfect people have no need of a savior. "None is righteous; no, not one." (Romans 3:10)
That verse is prophecy meant for after the 12 tribes are reunited.
And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
You don’t think Abraham’s answering the call of Jehovah is an example fundamental to the Judeo-Christian belief?
He left the comforts of Ur’s civilization, moved his family to an unknown land, was tested and tried and remained faithful through it all. He is held up as an example of faithfulness and righteousness repeatedly, particularly in Romans and Hebrews 11.
There’s nothing to be gained by trying to pit Abraham against Moses. Both were admirable servants.
And it was Sarah who chased Hagar away into the desert.
Correct, of Israel. Jacob was Israel, per Genesis 32:28. Judah, the patriarch of the Jews, was Jacob’s fourth son, by Leah.
No, all the tribes are not called Jews. They are called Israel. Asher was the second son of Jacob (Israel) by Zilpah.
There is no “myth of the lost ten tribes”; that is Biblical and spoken of in the Bible.
The Jews and Israelites actually fought wars against each other after The split following Solomens death.
A Jew is an Israelite but not all Israelites are Jews and never were referred to as Jews.
Mary the mother of Jesus, father, was of the tribe of Judah.. Mary's mother a cousin of Elizabeth, mother of John the Baptist, was from the tribe of Levi.
Christ came in the Order of Melchizedek... King and Priest. Judah and Levi.
I was waiting for someone to write that. There is no distinction. All are Jews. All Israel are brethren. And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call. And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine. But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
