On the eve of the Wisconsin primaries, top Republicans are becoming increasingly vocal about their long-held belief that Speaker Paul Ryan will wind up as the nominee, perhaps on the fourth ballot at a chaotic Cleveland convention.
One of the nation’s best-wired Republicans, with an enviable prediction record for this cycle, sees a 60 percent chance of a convention deadlock and a 90 percent chance that delegates turn to Ryan — ergo, a 54 percent chance that Ryan, who’ll start the third week of July as chairman of the Republican National Convention, will end it as the nominee.

What if Ryan’s primary opponent wins, who does the gop-e back then?
Either they offered him something in return (perhaps a promise not to back an establishment candidate in the Senate primary in TX), or he’s just doing this out of spite.
I think we have to try and put ourselves in Cruz’s shoes to understand what is currently motivating him. This has been a vicious contest; he has worked very hard; he is very ambitious. He believes in himself and what he believes he can accomplish. It is easy to lose your perspective when you get in this deep. I believe he is a Christian and I believe that he will be led to do the right thing once it becomes clear that it is no longer mathematically possible for him to reach a majority of delegates before the convention. The right thing will be to work together with Trump. I believe that it is going to happen, but the transition will have to be made carefully. It is time for all of us on both sides to begin coming together, so that we can win this thing.
How I wish that it were so, but I have been involved in local politics. The people who get to go to the convention are the people who have been involved in the party the longest and have given the most. This is true all over the country. The party insiders all know this. In Tennessee, they not only wouldn't nominate Trump and Cruz people to be delegates, they wouldn't even let them attend the party meeting.
If no candidate gets a majority of pledged delegates before the convention the party bosses will pick the nominee and it will not be Cruz or Trump. We must start looking at what the actual outcome is likely to be. The time for animosity around here is now behind us. It is time we all start working together, or we will lose.
We should all be backing Ryan’s primary challenger. His name is Paul Nehlen. He is a tea party type businessman who is rightly calling Ryan a traitor. His website is taking donations as little as $10. Even if you don’t live in Wisconsin’s first district you can help take down Ryan. Paul Ryan’s cronyism and deception needs to be stopped now.

Sorry. I get to vote the primary based on my principles and always have. And as long as there is someone still running at the time of my primary who is not Trump, that person will get my vote.
I and many here are now done with the GOP. Sick of their crap and changing rules to suit their needs and not the people or the country.
You speak truth. Cruz people are naive if they think the long term party insiders/donors who make up almost all the unbound and much of the bound delegates are going to nominate Cruz.

Delegates pledged to Cruz (or Trump) aren't pledged to them because they support or like them, but because they've been assigned to do so following primaries or caucuses. Most of these delegates are small-time political operatives and other hacks beholden to the RNC, and they will support an establishment candidate in the second round, when they're no longer pledged to Cruz or Trump. If we have a brokered convention, say hello to nominee Ryan, Bush, Romney, or Rubio.
The Cruz vs. Trump fight is basically a replay of past primaries: anti-establishment candidates split the conservative/populist/libertarian vote, while the establishment coalesces around one candidate. The only difference is this coalescing will happen among delegates rather than individual voters.

I understand they are bound on the first ballot. I was referring to lining up delegates for the second ballot.
However, lets say that I agree with you, that all the delegates will vote however the RNC tells them. Why are all the Trump people going nuts over Ted getting his preferred delegate slate? According to you, it doesn't matter anyway, and Ted is just wasting his time.
