Wisconsin governor Scott Walker said Thursday that in the event of a contested convention, the Republican nominee will likely be someone who is "not currently running."
"I think if it's an open convention, it's very likely it would be someone who's not currently running," Walker said.
"I mean, who knows. The one thing I qualify -- it's like the qualifications you see on those ads you see for car dealerships. I think any of us who comment on this election have to qualify that almost every prediction's been off, so it's hard to predict anything," Walker added.
Walker's own run for the presidency went down in flames before the Iowa caucus even happened, due in large part to Walker hiring a D.C.-based team that didn't know how to manage a conservative Midwesterner.
Convention head Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)56% has not definitively ruled out the possibility that he could get the nomination in Cleveland. John Boehner said that he would support Ryan on a second ballot.

It’s psyops. Distraction. Don’t believe it. It’s either going to be Trump or Cruz. Anybody else and the GOP shuts down. Obama could run for a 3rd term and nobody would do anything about it.
your comment is spot on.
I am just saying, Cruz started out as an anti-establishment maverick.
I must say. He was an inspiring person, though I looked through the options and settled upon Donald Trump early. We have been on opposite sides, I admit.
All I am saying is now, things seem to have changed. Now Trump is very strong, winning almost all of the actual polls (as opposed to caucuses). Cruz seems to be better at winning caucuses.
But Trump is now dominating.
I am all for that, because frankly Trump seems to be the only guy anywhere, who is for American businesses.
EVERYONE ELSE IS SOLD OUT. The entire establishment has been selling us out, to a massive communist country, for an entire generation.
Both parties, are sold out.
Now, Cruz sure seems to me, to have sold out to them.
In my opinion, it is time for Cruz to stand down, join with Trump, and America needs a new leadership team.
Big time.
(and I’ve been a FReeper since 2005, but it’s a long story)
Thanks for listening.
Go Trump. :D
GOP establishment seem intent on losing the election.
Maybe after having to run the House for several years and the Senate, they find ‘leadership’ just too taxing and want to go back to their do-little minority status.
Then, they can critize President Hillary or not and get to the lounge on time for drinks and comradery with their friends from across the aisle.
Exactly right...
With Walkers comments, think you can rule out the possibility he will
endorse Cruz.
The ACU used to be conservative. Real conservatives, not the establishment elite conservatives of today.
If the GOPe pulls that stunt, then it’s highly likely that a massive number of Trump and Cruz voters won’t show up in November, and that the GOP will lose to Hillary and the losses downline will be huge.
spills the beans? uh, more like stating the obvious.
hint to trump. sessions or walker, great vp picks. true blue republicans but in a good way, not gopes.
Its too bad things have got so nasty, because Cruz belongs on Trumps ticket and now that seems unlikely.”
Yeah, because someone like me who was for Cruz last year and moved to Trump this year now detests Cruz as a spoiled, arrogant sock puppet for the GOPe who will end up giving us Bush or Romney as the nominee.
At this point I feel like I would have to hold my nose to vote for a Trump/cruz ticket were it to happen.
Cruz really is the problem at the moment. He is no longer the guy he was originally, he is now standing with the entire establishment.
Every single thing which Trump is for, Cruz is against.
= = =
I can’t really see evidence for this.
Cruz gets no TV time, except for edited, selected, negative out-of-context bits.
Trump is getting less TV time lately, except when he is blasting Cruz.
No way. Ok, maybe after Cruz is mathematically eliminated in April:
I don’t think we have to accept their choice...That is the way things have been done for 20 years and look where it got us...Time to upset their little wagon...
So the GOPe idiots want to nominate a guy who has not stood up before the people during this primary season. What could possibly go wrong with that?
They pul lthis crap, and I’ll walk and take it up to DEFCON 1
Walker's own run for the presidency went down in flames before the Iowa caucus even happened, due in large part to Walker hiring...Liz Mair?
Yep. Walker spills the beans. A vote for Ted Cruz is a vote for Mitt Romney.
I remember those days.
It was odd for him to say that Romney, behind closed doors was strongly pushing himself as the nominee if the nomination went to the convention.
I’ve read any number now saying that if it goes to the convention that neither Trump nor Cruz will come out as the nominees.
Dobbs had a billionaire named Ross on. Ross said the establishment is working like hell for it to be thrown to the convention.
He said that someone needs to ask them who they want to vote for there.
Yep, Walker just let the cat out of the bag.
Cruz is the pawn in this game of GOP-e chess.
They are going to push for Romney or Jeb.
Beck was placed on Cruz’s team by Romney to destroy both candidates.
Just like he destroyed everyone but Romney in 2012.
Even a lot of savvy people seem to have missed the new Grover Norquist - Suhail Khan ACU, for which Carly Fiorina is the head of fundraising. They have done a good PR job by continuing their CPAC meetings, which keeps most conservative commentators from calling them out.
