Google in 2012 sought to help insurgents overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad, according to State Department emails receiving fresh scrutiny this week.
Messages between former secretary of state Hillary Clinton's team and one of the company's executives detailed the plan for Google to get involved in the region.

We are very, very proud of what Wael Ghonim was able to do in Egypt, they were able to use a set of technologies that included Facebook, Twitter and number of others to really express the voice of the people. And that is a good example of transparency. And we wish them very much the best. I have talked to him. We are very, very proud of what he has done. said Googles CEO and Leader Mr Schmidt in Barcelona.

It troubles me very much how a US company can stir international conflict with our government's backing.
Don’t be evil, lol...
Russia and China know everything about what our government is doing.
This explains so much.
Zuckerberg can pack his bags.
They aren’t going to allow any foreign insurgent agents in China.
So Google execs are qualified to get involved in international affairs?

Technology industrial complex.
Google started Egypt. Now we hear that Google is behind the Syrian civil war too?
W-—T-—F?
Exactly right. This is never mentioned either.
It’s going to be like “Rollerball”, where nations are replaced by Corporations.
Yes, because they are progressives. Their intentions are beyond question. On the other hand, DuckDuckGo hasn't started a war.
I was at a meeting recently where a former Disciplinary Counsel for the State (the person that goes after attorneys engaging in ethical lapses or malpractice) said she would consider it a per se ethical violation for an attorney to communicate with clients via Gmail. She said, “you do know they are reading everything you send and there is no privacy with Gmail, don’t you?”
Sorry. I did a search but obviously not a very good one. I believe I just searched “Assad” and didn’t see this story come up.
Thanks for the link.
Silicon Valley wants a return on their huge donations to the Democratic Party. It is clear they can manipulate the foreign policy of the United States if for no other reason than to massage the egos of their executives. “OK try calling me a nerd now! I have power! I do, I do, I do!” Try to imagine the outcry if it was Wall Street guys who tried to do that.

And many of us are just panting to give them all of our information over which they (and if they get their way) ONLY they will have control. Seems to be a lot swirling around all these enormous and secretive companies.
One got on the stage in Egypt.....and got quickly kicked off by the Muslim Brotherhood.
Millions of refugees are displaced. Google needs to pay to house them.
Thankfully, the muzzie brotherhood was kicked out of Egypt.

Yep. Some old school, mossback firms are quietly losing business without knowing why, and it is over their utter lack of cyber security. Corporate clients in particular are quietly using this as a litmus test for whether firms are minimally competent to handle their work.

Actually, some of these unofficial as well as official actors need to face war crimes tribunals for their malicious and destructive dabbling.
