I was at a meeting recently where a former Disciplinary Counsel for the State (the person that goes after attorneys engaging in ethical lapses or malpractice) said she would consider it a per se ethical violation for an attorney to communicate with clients via Gmail. She said, “you do know they are reading everything you send and there is no privacy with Gmail, don’t you?”

Yep. Some old school, mossback firms are quietly losing business without knowing why, and it is over their utter lack of cyber security. Corporate clients in particular are quietly using this as a litmus test for whether firms are minimally competent to handle their work.

I always took that the G in Gmail meant “government”, and also that the name Google was just more of the same dumb inside joke in plain view, being a play on goggle and ogle (go ogle). And why not, they have glasses and street views and Ogle er Google Earth...

Maybe it’s just me. :)
