By the time the GOP insiders woke up, it was too late, but they launched a furious last minute attack on the Senator from Arizona. He was a “warmonger,” “not fit to be President,” “a bigot,” “a racist,” “mentally unstable,” “would push the nuclear button,” and his supporters were “Nazis.” Does this sound familiar?

Looks more like 1968 to me.
How Trump’s presidential campaign resembles his past:

1964? More like ‘76.
The big difference that bears no resemblance to the past is that we have the internet. The internet has neutered the media and they can no longer control the message. Trump has 14 million subscriber on his social media and can get his message out within seconds. That is why Trump has traction. The media is irrelevant. Goldwater never had the internet nor was he net savvy like Trump.
1968 would be when Ronald Reagan beat Nixon in the primaries in the popular vote but the establishment gave the nomination to Nixon.
Reagan was the right man at the right time.
Was there any plausible conservative opposition to Goldwater? That’s why Cruz is key for the GOPe. He’s simply become a tool to divide the conservative anti-establishment. He’s zealously protected by the Media and GOPe now.
Hmm. I was thinking more of the communist riots in Chicago.
Reagan would have been much better in 68’.
Nixon gave us the EPA, OSHA and the 55mph speed limit.
I expect to see the commericial of the little girl picking the daisies when the nuke goes off in the background...Johnson used that against Goldwater very effectively

Let’s not forget Bobby Kennedy was the MSM’s favorite. He won California, but we all know how that turned out.
No plausible opposition to Goldwater. There was Rockefeller,Scranton and Romney the Eastern Liberal Establishment. It was ugly. I worked for Barry. Not a good time.
In 1968, to the best of my recollection, the political riots didn’t start until the ‘rat convention.
If what we saw in Chicago last Friday doesn’t quiet down right quick like, we may soon see things none of us has seen in our lifetimes.
Borrowing a line from Adm. Painter, “This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we’ll be lucky to live through it.”.
This all takes me back to when Goldwater was running. I was a kid in grammar school and all of us kids were praying that Goldwater didn’t become president..because we thought, he wanted us to go to school seven days a week! We were all very upset about that.
Which brings us to today. How are children perceiving all of this confusion? What does it look like/sound like, to them?
Parents please, talk to your kids. Keep it simple, but do talk to them and learn of their concerns so you can put those concerns to rest. It makes a yuge difference in your relationships with your kids in later years, when you spend the time to sit them down to talk to them about confusing issues.
Poor Bobby.
WE THE PEOPLE HAVE A VOICE.
THE SILENT MAJORITY IS SILENT NO MORE.
WE ARE MAD AS H*LL AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE.
DONALD IS OUR VOICE.
DON'T LET HIM DOWN!
