If Kasich wins Ohio, we will see a Trump/Kasich ticket.
Why Kasich?
1) If he can carry Ohio in a significant fashion it will be extremely helpful for the electoral politics in which the GOP is disadvantaged. 2) Trump will want to balance the ticket with experience and someone like him who believes they can work with Dems as necessary to make progress. (Not every time like the GOPe) 3) Kasich brings a sense of quiet and calmness to the ticket which will get some who are nervous about Trump onboard. 4) Kasich is a conservative and has decent real life successes in government. 5) Kasich has foreign policy experience. 6) It's a good fit and there are little wounds to heal as both tend not to attack each other in a fashion that cannot easily be overcome - unlike both Rubio and Cruz.
HAHA. Fruit ninja.
How many delegates can he provide Trump at a potential brokered convention?
RE: TRUMP/KASICH 2016
Regardless of how we feel about this combo. I think this is HIGHLY LIKELY with one proviso -— Kasich wins the Ohio primaries or takes second to Trump in that state.
Ohio is a must win state and whoever wins Ohio, usually wins the Presidency.
Not to be paranoid but....
Trump must pick a VP who is sufficiently repugnant to the power brokers that a coup would not be a good idea.
We don’t want the power brokers to be better off with Trump elected, then dies in office.
That is a basic starting point if you are Trump and the Bilderberg crowd has a lot at stake.
I think it will be Trump/Cruz. They reportedly got along fine early in the process, and in the history of political rivalries, their spat is hardly something they can’t get past.
Trump will go for the Reagan/working class Dem vote while using Cruz to protect the base and target evangelicals in places like Iowa, Wisc, VA, FL, NC, Ohio, Indiana. I think the two of them would make Hillary have to thread the needle and put more pressure on her while Trump would go for a couple non GOP states...MI PA etc.
Strategically Cruz gives Trump cover to continue to make broad strokes that appeal in the general, while not risking the right base.
It double downs on immigration, and it would take nothing to pivot Cruz back to an non establishment candidate...which is another double down.
The media would be all over the place trying to attack the pair....they would be twisted in knots in how to frame it.
Just my prediction anyway.
I honestly think Trump has Reagan's ability to communicate with voters from across the political spectrum. If he busts the D stranglehold on unions in the Midwest and black voters in the Atlantic states, he will be seen as a Republican icon.
They'll protect and honor him. Kasich on the ballot will calm a lot of nerves. Government still has to work.
Kasich on the ticket, along with the rumored talks with Gingrich as White House Chief... the hissy-fitting should calm down. And I think it is going to HAVE to calm down for any R to have a chance.
If Trump chooses Kasich as his running mate, it would be a strong signal that he will be moving toward progressivism. A possible deal breaker.
He sure didn’t. He gave us slick willy.
No.
Awesome! Another election where we get to chose between the lesser of two evils! We all know how picking Paul Ryan sealed Wisconsin for Romney!
I could live with this one. Trump hasn't been hardly as hard on Cruz as he has Rubio. I can't stand Rubio. Cruz has creepy moments but he stands for a lot of the things Trump does.
Right now the only way Trump loses me if he changes his mind on the wall. National security is a huge issue and you can't have it with open borders where anybody can sneak in and then aren't allowed to be deported. I think Cruz would go for having a wall too. Cruz would bring a lot of delegates and he is a little more conservative than Trump. I think he would temper Trump in some ways while still being strong against most of the GOPe. I'm afraid that Cruz in the President's seat would almost be dictator-like the way Obama is.
Trump is staying ahead partly because of the arrogance of the GOPe. People are mad and aren't going to take it anymore. If Trump is beaten fairly I won't have any trouble backing Cruz.
My main challenge now is sorting out all the lies they are telling on each other and they are all doing it, or so it seems. I'd like to see an end of the childish name calling and mud slinging so that we can figure out where they all stand on the issues. I know where Rubio stands; wherever the GOPe tells him to stand.
Trump supporters don't care. He could pick Nancy Pelosi as his running mate and they'd say its a sign that Nancy sees the light now and is going to abandon her liberal policies and help The Donald make America great again.
Two points, did Ryan win Wisconsin in the primary vote? Is Romney Trump?
This would probably guarantee Kasich would be president in about two years. Trump will tire of the process of governing pretty quickly and will want to get back to his businesses. I predict if Trump wins he resigns well before the first term ends.
I hate to say this since I don’t like Cruz, but wouldn’t he make a better Supreme Court justice? Of course, there’s no way he’d get past the Dims for confirmation or for that matter the Pubs......
Kasich is Pro Amnesty. If Trump picks Kasich, it will plant seeds of doubt that Trump will build the wall.
Trump/Kasich and I might have to sit this one out. Should Trump win the nomination as looks likely, he and Cruz need to mend fences and run as a team. I’d be comfortable with Cruz there to advise Trump from a Constitutionalist Conservative standpoint. Having Cruz on the ticket would make me comfortable that Conservative values always have a voice in the decisionmaking. I understand that Trump would make the final decisions, which is why he needs Cruz to be his Conservative conscience. IMHO...
Nope, Romney’s too conservative to be Trump.
“Hell/No”
Kasich himself told a woman at an event he was somewhere between Sanders and Hillary politically. So yes, hell no.
